Got some interesting stuff today, none of which I have played before.

A few really cheap Neo Geo games, Samurai Spirits and Garou Densetsu Special

Some famous Saturn games, Akumajou Dracula X: Gekka no Yasoukyoku and Princess Crown. Sadly Dracula X is missing the obi, but I've never seen a copy so cheap so I only hesitated for about 30 seconds. I've never played the original PS1 version, just the PS4 version, so this will be interesting. I wish I found the regular version of Princess Crown and not the SataKore version, but this was the only one I could find. Aside from the missing hagaki, it looks brand new.

Finally, another famous game that I've never played. My first PS1 disc purchase since around 2009 or 2010.

Damn that is Super Cool!!!

You even have Escape From The Lost World Pinball!!!

(For a reference nobody ever gets...But You would) On the final track of our tape release of (the grindcore band I was in) Monastat 7- Now Available Without a Prescription,  at the end you hear the voice (from that pinball game) saying "Can You Escape?" **Then it echoes...The joke being now you flip the tape over and in essence Never escape!  (Also it is the second statement in a series after the final line in the song The Sleestak about not escaping the Land of The Lost...We had lots of references nobody would ever get, (but that was the point).  The CD release was different (But also included that) after we included our solo tracks/remixes as a bonus and then put a different joke at the Very End...

(Seeing as I've mentioned it, I'll see if I can attach an MP3 just for the hell of it...No worries if ya hate it, haha!)   (*Additional info:  Also this was one of only 3 songs that sounded this way because we switched instruments on them and improvised (in one take) the performances (which we sometimes did live) so these are different...Some of our stuff was "sing along" and some was pure grind, with lots of other changes and different styles thrown into the mix...On this song I played bass  and did backing vocals...The silliness that follows is our actual bassist, then the pinball sample...

What's the PS1 game? That sticker is covering up the English title...

This arrived a few days ago but I finally had some time to assemble it:

DSC-0454.jpg

This is the Monster Joysticks Deluxe Arcade Controller Kit for Raspberry Pi.  It's a joystick kit that uses genuine Sanwa buttons and stick, that is designed to house a Raspberry Pi.  It also includes a special Pi Hat for reduced input latency compared with a USB controller.

Assembling it was a bit fiddly—the instructions claim that you only need a screwdriver, but I definitely needed to use my socket wrench to install the joystick assembly (definitely not possible to screw this in by hand).  After that, I just had to set my Raspberry Pi up with Retroarch and a front end, and finally had to install and enable the SNESDev-RPi package to get the joystick and buttons actually recognized as a controller.  After that, smooth sailing and the build quality feels absolutely solid while the buttons and joystick of course feel arcade quality (since they are).  I am very sensitive to input latency, but I've got no complaints whatsoever.

I've got a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B installed and it's a noticeable improvement in performance over the Pi 3 Model B I had previously used prior to assembling this whole thing, with a lot more newer arcade games being completely playable now (for example, Mortal Kombat 2/3).

I'm typically in the "gotta play on real hardware" camp, especially for consoles and computers, but for arcade games I'm pretty happy with software emulation.  Very impressed with this kit!

And a import bios CD? I have a NA PS1.

Well, I mean, if you can, I'd get the Japanese version. I have a Japanese PS2 and PS3, so I just use one of those for my Japanese PS1/PS2 games. I'll probably stop using the PS2 now that I have the PS3 (it has beautiful deinterlacing! No more PS2 + Framemeister!), though.

I play on a CRT so I'm not concerned about interlaced video...

Now that you mentioned it, I wonder what happens if you run interlaced games on the PS3 on a CRT with RGB or component or something. I imagine it probably just runs them in interlaced mode. I can find out easily enough, though.
