atari 1064 in addition to 64k two chip upgrade?

I am wondering if the Atari 1064 64K "cartridge" will be compatible with the 64K 2 chip mod that i have successfully installed? 128K?

No. It'll just be used instead of the on-board RAM.

You are better off seeing if you can get Ram 320XL upgrade from ctirad. It should cost about the same as a 1064. It is the best way to u/g a 600xl.

Max RAM supported by any 6502 is 64KB. It only has a 16-bit address bus. The only way to get beyond that is by "cheating" and swapping 16K chunks of RAM in and out of address space with bankswitching and the 1064 doesn't work this way.

 

There's several ways to get some extended RAM though.

 

-Best sells an internal 256K (64K Base, 192K extended) upgrade that isn't too terribly tough to install.

-There's also the RAM 320XL which is solderless and plugs in like the 1064. These are kinda hard to find right now.

-And of course there's stuff like Ultimate 1MB and the MegaHz 512K expansion. The MegaHz upgrade is tough to install in a 600XL.

stay tuned - there will be a RAM 576XL soon by ctirad and it is as simple to install as the 1064. Just plug it into the PBI...

No. The 1064 and internal ram will mirror each other from the 16K boundary and higher. It may or may not work properly. Best not to do it.
