marlowe221
Hi all, I am brand new to the forums here but I am a long-time Atari fan. I got my 2600 (Vader model) as a birthday present when I was 7 or 8 years old. I used to play the hell out of it but as I moved on to other systems it sat in a box in the closet for years. I was recently inspired to drag it out of the closet and play some of the games from my childhood. I was pleasantly surprised that the console fired right up and the picture quality was good. One little snag though - my old joysticks and paddles were not in the box! I have looked all over the place for them and cannot find them anywhere. So, I need to replace them - any recommendations? Should I go original or third party or modern reproduction? Fortunately, I remembered reading somewhere that Sega Genesis controllers would work on a 2600 so I was able to play some Defender and Asteroids. The Genesis controller worked well enough but it just wasn't the same... Also, if anyone has any recommendations for a PC joystick for use with Stella (or other emulator) I would really appreciate that too. Thanks!
tremoloman2006
The AtGames reprroductions are very close to the originals. Built better and have a little more throw than the originals. They are on sale now for $11.99 each: http://www.atgames.us/ATARI-Joystick-Controller-for-Flashback-wired-ARC260.htm I love the Tac-2 joystick best if you can find th em. DO NOT BUY THE ATGAMES joysticks!!! They are crap! I had a flashback 5 system and upon playing Super Football, the stick snapped right off. I took back the flashback 5 and got a replacement 2600 instead. Nothing like having the real thing. To his point, I still have my Tac-2 controllers and they are the best thing for atari 2600 games. Still, if you can't find that, go with an actual 2600 joystick and stay away from Atgames...
AW127
I would recommend using a "Competition Pro" Joystick. They are superb joysticks with very exact steering and can be used on all 9-pin system (C64, Atari-XL, Amiga, Atari-ST...) except Mega-Drive. If they are not sold out, you can get new 9-Pin Competition Pro Sticks from icomp.de. In 2014 they made a second batch of the retro model from sthis joystick, once the first batch was sold by Speedlink about 10 years ago together with the USB-model (which sadly was unusable because of delays in steering). But the retro model was good and still is.

I also recommend atgames.com joysticks, they are amazing and high quality. Very smooth joystick and button. Quick shipping too! They work great on a real 2600, in case you were wondering. Pay by paypal right online and boom, done. Best Electronics you're gonna have to call, their site is as primitive as the products they sell...haha. I kid, I kid. AtariBrian
Why the new fire button? From my experiences a new fire button was needed most of the times . The old button gets worn and with the height difference of a new board and or dome contact it would not work well . Read about it on their site and through the link I posted . CrazyChris
I didn't know that. Thanks for the tip.
+xucaen
Where you mentioned emulators, I just wanted to add that you can get an Ouya console and install the 2600 emulator from the Ouya game store (free). Then you can play Atari 2600 games in HD. Although, there is no Atari joystick blue tooth adapter (yet, AFAIK).
Papa
First do this.. http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/Papa761203/1517491_502070793239702_1417077092_n.jpg Then build one of these (top right).. http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/Papa761203/1016347_504380346342080_773398233_n.jpg With an Atari PCB map up and down as buttons so that racing games or games that use up as jump can now have a button!! With Genesis pad just map the buttons how you want them!! It's WAY easy!! And here's the view from the captains seat on my bridge.. http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/Papa761203/10378253_675954735851306_52251310068200979_n.jpg Edited February 5, 2015 by Papa
