Atari TT - music capabilities (MP3 test included)

Hi guys.

Lately I bought Atari TT because I wanted to test what are its music capabilities.

Usually, the machine was considered a graphic station, like Atarimania states, but I was always interested in pushing classic computers to their limits and this time I was given this opportunity by Paulo Simoes who programmed the Hex-Tracker 849a.

So this is a test-song I made with standard Atari TT 4Mb. It's entitled "aTTraction", heheh. ;)
Recorded from real hardware, of course:

I suspected the computer is very powerful - and I was right.

Hex gives here 16 channels, using the Atari's 32Mhz Motorola CPU. (Can make more but with a substantial sound quality reduction).

Setup for Hex-Tracker 849a: DMA / MONO / 25x50, volume: 6.

The MOD itself: http://yerzmyey.i-demo.pl/aTTraction_16ch_MOD_for_TT_HexTracker849a.rar

What a powerful machine.

Thanks guys.

Yes, this machine surely can *do things*. :)

As for the file, there is actually a link (this forum's engine changes such links automatically into a flash player or sommit) but I can remove the HTTP and stuff, so it would like like this one:

yerzmyey.i-demo.pl/Yerzmyey-aTTraction.mp3

and still if You put it into Your browser, You will be able to download it now.

Best wishes. :)

Hi,

well - I didn't try actually.

It could work, I imagine, although it wouldn't be in the full 50khz quality of sound then. I think so anyway.

So I didn't take this risk. 16 channels was quite a dangerous number for a 32Mhz CPU anyway. It didn't work on the highest quality even in mono (I had to pull it down. Only one step, but still). And with even lower quality, the dynamic would get ugly. :(

So I left it mono.

Of course You can experiment with the MOD file and the HexTracker, if You have Atari TT.

Kind regards!

By the way, for some time already I was wondering whether it is possible to make symphonic music using only Atari TT.

(I have a standard machine. With 4Mb of RAM).

Well, the final effect isn't very satisfactory, however - here is a song with this kind of music, made entirely for Hex/Atari TT (recorded from real hardware of course).

Well, could be worse, hahaha.

PS: If anybody would be interested, I can send the MOD to PM or something.

Thx a lot. ;)

Here is the Atari format:

http://yerzmyey.i-demo.pl/UTTERLY.MOD

For Hex 849a or b.

Setup:
STE DMA Mono
F: 25x50
V: 6

The same setup goes for Falcon too, heh.

Hex has abilities to export file into an Amiga/PC format of MOD and Paulo (the Hex's author) was kind enough to do it for me:

http://yerzmyey.i-demo.pl/Yerzmyey-uTTerly_unseTTling_transmiTTal_PC_MOD.MOD

It should be easy to do with CTRL+P but somehow it didn't worked on my Falcon, hm.
