Mendon #5 Posted March 30, 2003 I'm looking for Ultra Vortek and Rayman box's as both of these arrived shipped in a envelope (non-padded even) and both had been crushed, flattened, and tore really bad by the "ever-gentle" post office system. I sent a courteous note to the sellers suggesting in the future that they perhaps charge an extra $1.00 or so for shipping and use the free priority mail boxes provided by the post office so as to avoid any damaged goods being received by a buyer as some of us like having a complete and good condition game. Both said they would and offered me a partial refund of my money for the rough condition of the games. I refused since it's not that big a deal to me (but could be to some) but its nice to know that some eBayer's are willing to go above and beyond what most would do to make sure that they have happy buyers. Mendon Well, they never should have sent you the items packed so poorly in the first place. I'm sure the offer to refund some money came more from fear of a negative feedback than from any guilt on the seller's part. It's common sense to send things packed well. kevincal #7 Posted March 30, 2003 I had won both PDR and Rayman from ebay...which were labeled as "in box complete"...and they appeared in the pics on ebay to be so...But when I got them they didn't have the white cardboard inserts in either of them...I was pissed!!! Fortunately, I contacted Carl over at Songbird and he was kind enough to sell me two white cardboard inserts for something like $15 for both. So if anybody needs those Carl may be able to help you out...

Gunstar #9 Posted March 31, 2003 yeah, I'm still pissed about the IS2 game I ordered back in '96 that came crushed from GoAtari, although it really wan't their fault as it was packed in a cardboard box with styrofoam peanuts and stuff, if was clearly the Post offices fault, they must have stepped on it or ran it over with truck or something...can't trust the US postal service to send anything undamged regardless of packing, and if you mark it fragil, it seems they go out of their way to make sure it gets damaged! I also recieved a Attack of the Mutant Penguins that was supposed to be in mint conditon, crushed, but that was a case of seriously poor packing by the guy I traded it from (only padded envelope!). But it pisses me off just as much when I see people here say they *had* stuff I need, but say "oh, I just threw it away because I figured the box wan't important! +Sauron #10 Posted March 31, 2003 I see some of you guys are pretty damn anal about this. I personally could care less, as I'm a GAMER first and foremost. However, I will agree that it's nice to have a nice, shiny complete box along with the game. But it does nothing to change the fact that I'll just as easily pick up a loose cart if I'm really wanting the game. I suppose all of the Jag and Lynx game boxes I've thrown away over the years really drives you guys nuts!

I suppose all of the Jag and Lynx game boxes I've thrown away over the years really drives you guys nuts! it's funny..I forget when I started caring about saving the boxes and manuals and all that...I am a gamer first and foremost also but I'm a collector now too and I just like having something complete for one reason or another...I think things like Jag items will hold their value more overtime as things become more rare..by having a game in its complete form shows it was taken care of for the most part and therefore increases in value the older its gets, whereas I tend to be skeptical of the condition of games or systems w/out any box...sure is a lot cheaper to buy games w/out being complete...for instance I saw an auctiuon recently where there was approx. 25-30 Jag carts all loose that went for I believe under $100! The seller said they all worked so it sounds like a great deal. If all those games were complete in box, they would have sold for more like $300-400. Mock #13 Posted March 31, 2003 A tale of two 5200's... I purchased 2 of them from ebay recently (few months ago) and one came perfect in it's original box...looked like it just came off the shelf...boxed inside of another box and lots of packing material. The other...the system was perfect, and it came in it's original box...and I mean it came in it's original box..taped shut with postage right over the original price sticker...damn shame because it looks complete with foam and the box does not look like it was in that bad of shape before it was shipped like this... Video #14 Posted March 31, 2003 I'm not super concerned about getting games complete in box, as I'm a gamer first. But when I do get boxes, docs, overlays, etc, they get packed away in one of my many large plastic boxes for protection. Remember, the boxes may not be important to you, but if you should ever want to sell your game, it's worth a lot more complete in box (especially with instructions, overlays, and even the little bag the game itself comes in) than it is as a loose cart. t.skid #16 Posted March 31, 2003 Well, few weeks ago I received Defender 2000 cart only, so I download the manual scans, print it, then 'redesign' the box and print it on a cardboard, then fold. It looks good I wrote it again: I HATE games without boxes
RJ #17 Posted April 4, 2003 @Gunstar- as a postal employee I take GREAT offense to your statement that it seems the USPS damages parcels on purpose. Why would any service in business to make money do that? In my latest eBay auctions my merch was sent via USPS & arrived undamaged. I have also had past dealings w/ Video 61, who swears by the USPS & never had anything bad to say about it! Of course, you can always choose a different delivery service & pay so much more! BTW- it's spelled "FRAGILE".
Gunstar #18 Posted April 6, 2003 @Gunstar- as a postal employee I take GREAT offense to your statement that it seems the USPS damages parcels on purpose. First off, I said "SEEMS" which is NOT a direct accusation, but infered, but I've noticed that many people, including myself, can use refresher courses in english comprehension in some areas. Second, I know how to spell words correctly in most cases, such as "fragile," it's merely a matter of being a TYPO in 99% of my spelling errors, and even in editing, these things can be overlooked, I see typo's in published books and other media all the time, it just happens sometimes, so I'm hardly concerned over a few typos in an unpolished posting. Third, I'm sorry you took offense personally, but unfortunately, not everyone is as careful and/or concerned about the quality of the job they do, and I have personally had FAR more experiences with damaged goods through the USPS than any other parcel service I've ever used. Maybe it's bad luck on my part, but that's how it's been and I stick firmly beside what I stated in my post above. If you don't like it, maybe you can help to improve service and care in handling at the USPS, if not, tuff. Suck it up and do your job with excellence knowing that at least you are putting forth a quality effort. I'm sure the problems I've had were indeed accidents and not truely intensional, I was being sarcastic, but that doesn't change the fact one bit that these "accidents" did occur and my packages DID arrive damaged on many occasions through the USPS, and when using UPS or Fedex or Airborn express, I have NEVER recieved damaged goods yet and they have always arrived much quicker as well. I'm happy to pay the so-called "higher" price to ensure lack of damage. Personally, while standard postal rates are generally cheaper, I've found UPS or FEDEX 2nd day shipping to be far more reasonable and safe over Priority mail. I always check for the cheapest rates at the optimum service, and Priority mail has been the highest price point and/or slowest service on NEARLY every occasion. I'm sorry you take offense at my personal experience truths. I still use Priority mail quite often for my parcels, but only because of the convenience of the Post office being closer to home, I just always use sturdy boxes (yes, priority mail boxes are quite sturdy), but I also make sure, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I do a secure and protective a packing job as I possibly can, regardless of the service I choose to use. Unfortunately, everybody who sends parcels do not take the same care I do, and often, product is damaged in transit, regardless of who is to blame. Mendon #19 Posted April 6, 2003 I'd like to add one point that I've experienced in the past in the USPS vs FedEx/UPS debate. I purchased an item of off eBay and got an Email from the seller that he shipped it USPS. About 5 days went by and the item arrived with a couple holes in the box, along with the box being crushed and dented in a couple places. The item was broke. I contacted the seller and he filed an insurance claim on it as I had purchased insurance. The post office came out the next day and collected the box. Eight days later I had a check from the seller refunding my money as USPS had paid him (or perhaps was in the process of paying him.. I don't recall). Anyhoot, while disappointed that I didn't get the item, USPS paid off on their claim very fast and without hassle (according to the seller). Now, a few months ago I shipped an antique radio to Michigan via UPS on 2 day delivery. It was VERY well packed with double boxing, peanuts, bubble wrap, etc. The guy I shipped it to sent me a Email after 3 days saying he hadn't received the radio yet. I called UPS.. they said they would start a trace. They called me back the next day and said they found it.. it was in Louisville, KY as it had been held up for inspection (under some new heightened security rules) but was on its way now. I asked about my paying for two day delivery and it had now already been four days since I shipped it off. Was told a supervisor would get back with me. Thirty Six hours later I got a phone call from the buyer (I had given him my number telling him to call me if there were any further problems) saying that he had received it but some of the parts were missing (I had included a packing list in the box) and the radio was damaged. I called UPS and they in turn called the buyer saying to package the item back up and they would pick it up the next day. They did... and then I got a EMAIL (not a phone call) from UPS exactly SIX hours AFTER the package had been picked up from the buyer (he had phoned me to let me know the status of the package) saying my insurance claim had been denied due to poor packaging. I called them (and was given a Louisville office) and asked them how they had determined this since THEY had opened the package for inspection (which they admit) and repackaged it and then the buyer had opened the package and repackaged it? They stalled around, not answering my question; I then asked HOW my package had gotten from Detroit MI to Louisville, KY in less than 6 hours AND had been completely inspected with a determination given?? They stalled some more and finally said they would offer me HALF of what I insured it for. After many threats (including legal action) I finally got my money back (but not my shipping fee's which I'm still fighting for) but it took a total of slightly over 3months and MANY phone calls to accomplish. Moral of this whole long post: Both UPS and USPS didn't give top service on these two shipments but at least USPS didn't screw around and try to rip anyone off; and they paid off on the insurance claim quickly also. I've used both UPS and USPS alot in my lifetime to ship things; my experience is both give pretty good service 98percent of the time. But after dealing with the lies and scamming of UPS over my radio, I'm not sure I'll ever use them again for shipping anything. Mendon P.S. Sorry for the long post... RJ #22 Posted April 7, 2003 @T-Bird- I don't know all the particulars, I don't work w/ parcels & have nothing to do w/ the airlines, but there is a contract between the USPS & FedEx. As the USPS doesn't have their own planes, they contracted w/ FedEx to use theirs. I believe a certain portion of cargo space can be used for USPS shipping on FedEx flights as long as it's within a certain percentage...
patters98 #23 Posted April 7, 2003 I'm about to move house and I just threw out a big pile of Lynx boxes recently. As someone said - I could have eBayed them but I really couldn't be bothered with sending them all out etc. It's the same with all our VHS videos. It's easier just to give them to charity shops who are glad to make money selling them. Not much they can do with game boxes though...
