DocktaCake #1 Posted January 30, 2015 (edited) Just got my intellivison! . However, when I turn it on, the screen is black and white with no sound, and wavy (see video below). I have tried multiple rf switches, cables, tvs etc. What can it be? Video: Edited January 30, 2015 by DocktaCake
Intellinate #3 Posted January 31, 2015 It could be a few things but my first guess would be that you have a PAL unit plugged into an NTSC TV or vice versa. If it's not that then you probably have an issue with the RF modulator on your logic board. Where did you get your unit at?
DocktaCake #4 Posted January 31, 2015 I got it off eBay. Say it is the board, would it be a simple fix like replacing caps, or is it fried?
Intellinate #5 Posted January 31, 2015 It could very well be something like that. Do you have a link to the ebay listing?

Intellinate #7 Posted January 31, 2015 There are two easy things to check. On the bottom it should say 60hz 110 or 120V. If that's good then open her up and you'll see the power supply in the top left corner (if the machine is situated with the power and reset button facing you). I would check the "ribbon cable" going from the power supply to the logic board and make sure it's seated in it connector on the power supply.
pimpmaul69 #8 Posted January 31, 2015 first. Flip the switch on the bottom of the system to the correct channel. Thats where i would start. If that doesnt work flip the tv and system to the other channel
pimpmaul69 #9 Posted January 31, 2015 Next there is an adjustable capacitor that you can adjust for color and screen flipping but it doesnt explain sound. And as mentioned check the ribbon cable. Also wiggle the power switch. Those are the first things to check
HunterZero #10 Posted January 31, 2015 (edited) It's a model 2609 so should be USA NTSC. Auction pic shows 115V 60Hz. Could RF modulator need fine tuning? NTSC plugged into PAL TV? Bad STIC? Edited January 31, 2015 by HunterZero

Bad STIC? rf modulator is my next guess, but there is an adjustable capacitor that will at least rule that out. I dont think it is the cap and more likely the rf modulater. DocktaCake #12 Posted January 31, 2015 I opened it up. Can you send me a picture of the adjustable cap? I think I see it but I don't know if that's it or not
pimpmaul69 #13 Posted January 31, 2015 I opened it up. Can you send me a picture of the adjustable cap? I think I see it but I don't know if that's it or notif you flip tge board around it is in the top right corner close to the rf modulater. It should be red or blue or white or something. It should have a philips slot in the top of it (+)
HunterZero #14 Posted February 1, 2015 Possibly a candidate for composite video mod then.

+freewheel #16 Posted February 4, 2015 I have one that exhibits similar, although not entirely exactly the same behaviour. I'm 90% certain it's a bad STIC on mine.

Yeah it kinda looks like the picture from my PAL Intellivision when I installed an NTSC STIC. Hence why I mentioned it.
+freewheel #18 Posted February 5, 2015 Yeah it kinda looks like the picture from my PAL Intellivision when I installed an NTSC STIC. Hence why I mentioned it. Oh, duh. Yeah. Actually paying attention to the included video helps. That's exactly what playing a PAL 2600 game on an NTSC TV looks like (the 2600 console itself has no PAL/NTSC concept). Adjusting vertical hold allows one to play the game, albeit with wrong/missing colours. Hard to really say without seeing actual gameplay, though. He mentions "no sound" - there is no sound on the copyright screen. I'd be curious what actual gameplay looks and sounds like.

So if he never went past the title screen i am back to trying to adjust the capacitor first.
