Flash Gordon rarity

Recommended Posts

I picked up a copy of Flash Gordon today at a flea market and I see it's listed as a 4. I've been around Atari age for a long time now on and off and I swear to God Flash Gordon used to be a 5?? Was it changed or am I just remembering wrong?

So how much did you pay? Rarity doesn't mean much unless you get into the 7 or higher. Most 2600 games won't go more than $3-5 for even mid-range rares.

I paid $5. And boy is it ever common. In fact it's so common I just found another one in my own collection lol. I need to do a new list of what I have it's hard to remember over 300 cartridges of what you have and what you don't.

Is it really that common, I never see it on ebay (cib of course, there's one on ebay for 39.95 (not exactly $5 though))

Wouldn't say it's exactly common, but obviously not that rare either. Rating it a 4 seems about right, but see them out in the wild more so than some of the other 4's from Sega such as Sub Scan, Thundergound and Congo Bongo.

I don't think it is common at all . I have seen and or owned so many carts over my lifetime and I don't remember once seeing a Flash Gordon .

It is opposite for me here in Ohio lol . I have seen and or owned quite a few Sega carts and have quite a few right now but never see Flash Gordon .

Regarding Flesh Gordon, this is taken from the AtaroProto's site that Tempest runs:

Flesh Gordon

This was to be Wizards final game entry, but was never released. Based on the 1974 soft-porn movie of the same name, Flesh Gordon was long thought to have never been even started until the programmer of the game kindly set the record straight.

"Flesh gordon was finished. It sucked, sometimes literally if you know what I mean. It was a horrible game with a lot of sex and the payoff was the ability to hump using the joystick. There was nothing cool or interesting but then wizard video wanted what they wanted. There came a time when they stole a copy of the final or near final version which was sent for their approval. They refused to pay and they went to publish the game using the rom we sent them to approve. It was just about finished but it needed some finishing touches. We never did them. They never officially released it as I understand and that was no loss."

What happened to the prototype that was sent to Wizard is unknown. Rumors over the years have surfaced that some collectors have access to the rom, but this has never been verified and is highly suspect.

I remember buying this at Circus World back in the day. It wasn't all that rare back then.

Not too many games were! Not even Pengo or the dozens of others considered rare today.
