Lord Thag #1 Posted February 7, 2015 Hi all, been awhile, but I should be back around here more since I moved. So I have an sio2sd interface that I lost my original SD card for. I am pulling my hair out trying to get it to work again. I have tried 2 different cards, both formatted FAT. I create the ATARI folder in the root directory and out my folders with the .atr files in there. No matter what I do, I get a 'card init error' regardless of card. I have formatted the cards on both PC and Mac, no difference. Any ideas as to what is going on here? Much obliged
w1k #2 Posted February 7, 2015 hmmm.. try format on windows 95/xp or linux (hmm, you can try format card in camera too) or reflash sio2sd firmware
Lord Thag #3 Posted February 7, 2015 I got it to work with a 3rd card, and I have tried the other options for formatting. Just the one works. No idea why.
bbking67 #4 Posted February 7, 2015 Which version is your sio2sd? Compatibility with SD went way up with 3.1. V2.5 needs a 2gb or smaller SD card.
+Stephen #5 Posted February 7, 2015 Is it possible to just do a firmware update on the older SIO2SD ver.2 boards, and get 15 drive compatibility?
bbking67 #6 Posted February 8, 2015 (edited) You should be able to upgrade the firmware to 3.x. To upgrade the firmware, just rename the firmware to SIO2SD.BIN (you want to use the 28K file from http://sio2sd.gucio.pl/wiki/SoftwareAVR_en ). Copy SIO2SD.BIN into the root directory (don't put it in the ATARI folder), and make sure there is a folder called ATARI. Because v2 only supports cards smaller than 2GB, I'd sue as small an SD card as possible and format it as plain old FAT (not FAT32). To upgrade the firmware press SHIFT and K3 on the unit to start the firmware flash and make sure you let it complete before you power down. After the upgrade you can apparently use larger SD cards and FAT32. When you upgrade to 3.x you'll find a few key commands are now different and you may have to disable the feature known as TopDrive which is enabled by default (I had serious compatibility issues until I got rid of it).
