Bill Lange #1 Posted February 9, 2015 I picked up a complete in the box Atari Communicator kit off eBay last week. I wanted to test the 830 modem, but I realized I don't have a phone headset that will fit! Looks cool though, Wargames cool! Bill
Bumzyman #2 Posted February 9, 2015 Bill, I think I have one of those old phones kicking around, one that does touch tone too, not rotary. Let me double check, If I have it still your welcome to it.

Looks cool though, Wargames cool! Bill I have one of these myself, mostly for display purposes currently. I picked up a brand new touch phone with the proper handset off eBay. Although they are not as cheap as you think they should be My ultimate goal is to simulate a phone network with one of those Asterisk TDM400Ps with the proper modules. I have several different types of computers with old modems I'd like to play around with.

I have several different types of computers with old modems I'd like to play around with. I've been thinking about how to do this if we can get an Atari/8-bit convention here near Indy... basically you just need a PBX and you should be able to set up your own network, with numbers... the best (cheapest and most versatile) option I've found so far is http://hackaday.com/2012/08/22/building-a-pbx-setup-around-the-raspberry-pi/ (cheap because I have an rPi I'm not using in my cold storage bitcoin wallet Piper printer). +sm3 #5 Posted February 9, 2015 Ah, never used the rPi myself. You can get the TDM400P cards with the modules on eBay for various prices The Asterisk software is free, so you then just need a PC to plug the card into: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331410129157

+sm3 #7 Posted February 9, 2015 Yeah they are suspect chinese knock offs though, they start at about 50$ shipped on ali express. Oh, well that may be the case. I'm always hesitant to buy direct from China like that myself. I just wanted to show that they are on eBay for various prices. I was looking at this place originally: http://www.digiumcards.com/tdm400p.html I'll be looking at it a bit more in-depth before I spend the money. +sm3 #8 Posted February 9, 2015 ... but I realized I don't have a phone headset that will fit! Looks cool though, Wargames cool! Bill Bill, if you don't get one from Bumzyman, there is one from this seller for $21.59 + free shipping: http://www.ebay.com/itm/131302461622 You can get an entire new phone for $30 or $40 depending on which seller you choose. I think I picked up my complete unit for around $40.
Bill Lange #9 Posted February 10, 2015 I unboxed the Communicator kit. It has three manuals (850, Telelink I, Dow Jones), a Telelink I cartridge, an 850, an 830, two power cords and a cable from the modem to port 1 on the 850. It also has the internal boxes and inserts. Everything seemed to power up. As I mentioned above, I don't yet have a phone to test with, but my brother said he might have one laying around. The 830 needs a good cleaning. Looking forward to exploring Dow Jones and Compuserve! Maybe play some MegaWars II at a speedy 300 baud. :-) Bill

Bill Lange #11 Posted March 2, 2015 My brother gave me a couple of classic desktop phones yesterday. Now I can test my 830 since I have a phone that fits. Bill
