Homebrew Multiplayer F-ZERO?

Yes, I know this is mainly an Atari forum, but NintendoAge doesn't allow new members. I love F-ZERO for my SNES, but I hate how its only single player. I think if they had had a multiplayer option, it would have been considered one of the greatest games of all time.

 

Has anyone tried to ever homebrew a SNES multiplayer version of the game? Is it even possible? I would buy one of those carts in a heartbeat.

Maybe it would be better to describe it as a hack. I'll let you, the experts, decide.

I imagine it would require a large amount of reverse engineering before one could even begin to implement a two player mode for the game.
