Elvis8Atari
I have been having trouble tracking down a copy of Night Stalker on the 2600 Atariage lists the rarity at a 5, yet I never see any copies floating around. What am I missing here? Edited February 19, 2015 by Elvis8Atari
+save2600
Try looking for Dark Cavern instead.
Elvis8Atari
I already have Dark Cavern. I see that it's the same game. So here's my question. If one was trying to get a complete Atari 2600 collection, would Night Stalker count since it's the same game? You wouldn't count the same game twice just because it has a different title right? high voltage
Slight differences see Atarimania for details
Elvis8Atari
Is night stalker for the 2600 PAL only? If anyone has a copy of this game, I'd be interested. Edited February 19, 2015 by Elvis8Atari
+xucaen
I did a little research and it looks like Night Stalker was originally released for the Intellivision. It was then ported to the Atari and renamed Dark Cavern from M Network. Based on the fact that the Atari 2600 Night Stalker was released from Telegames, I would guess that it is a renamed version of Dark Cavern that was released after M Network went under (post '83). I am not an expert on these games, I merely offer my own conclusion based on the available information. Please correct me if I am wrong (but do it nicely )

The only problem with that, some are saying there are differences in the gameplay.
Philflound
Game play is probably the same for the most part. Sometimes there are color differences with PAL versions. If you want to own every Atari 2600 game, you'll be looking for a few thousand carts if you want all titles and releases. AA has listed all the NTSC versions of games released for the 2600. Whether or not you collect a name change or a company change is up to you. Sears titles of Atari games have many of the same names. Some people consider these the same game, I personally consider it different since it is produced by another company. Collect what you like and what you can afford. Elvis8Atari
I just want to own every unique game. I'm probably going to take "Night Stalker" off my list, since it's nearly identical to Dark Cavern. It's really just a rerelease.
Philflound
Using Atarimania is probably a good idea then. He links the other games that are remakes or copies of originals. Start with all the major companies and then work from there. I know it's been discussed many times as to how many "unique" titles there are, but I can't remember off hand. I think it was somewhere between 500-600, but if anyone has an exact figure, feel free to post it. Phil

high voltage
There's some unique stuff like Mr. Postman, Snail against Squirrel and more from Bit Corp. Also the European only stuff, the ITT stuff, Mountain Man, Peter Penguin, Hell Driver and more.

Philflound
Digital Press in Clifton, NJ and at digitpress.com used to put out a hard copy price guide. I don't know if they still have any available, but you may want to check them out. Phil
atarinut76
I was just going through my pal games and noticed I do have it! Maybe this weekend I'll see if they are 100% the same or what not!
MattG/Snyper2099
I realize that this topic is very old but I do own a NTSC version of Night Stalker complete in box... It was originally owned by JerryG and I have owned it since he sold off his collection years ago. It's the only version like this that I've seen but I am certain some others do own it. I am not interested in selling, just wanted people to realize that it does exist.
Rom Hunter
Are you sure it´s NTSC? If so, the score, lives and bullets counters shoulod be inside the playfield, otherwise it´s PAL. Can you show us a screenshot?

Captain_Combat
The box and game is almost a ghost you never see it. My box was sealed but I had to break the wrap because it was being constricted like a anaconda. Still unopened and the box was saved in perfect shape? Rom Hunter
Captain Combat, do you know if yours is NTSC?

I’m not sure but I do know mine was purchased new sealed from telegames Texas. I don’t think quality control was their strong point. I have never opened the box, however I may do that since breaking the seal to save the box. Has this title ever been found in ntsc? This must of had a super limited release because of the crash? In 10 years I have never seen this box listed on eBay in the States. I’m assuming this box is super rare in Europe also? Lots of ????? Rom Hunter
It´s not extremely rare in PAL, but AFAIK it has never been found in NTSC. If you´re willing to open the box and show us a screenshot, then I can tell if it´s the NTSC version (it´s different from the PAL version). high voltage
Telegames UK has it (PAL version) in stock within 2 -3 days (he makes them), but most likely available in a Telegames plastic box. I could ask Pete. Edited September 22, 2019 by high voltage
Captain_Combat
I’m going to definitely post some game pics next weekend or the one after that. The game is probably Pal since nobody has come up with ntsc yet.
