2600 joystick to USB conversion?

Has it ever been done? I want to able to link an Atari stick to a PC (at work, during lunch breaks) and a Macintosh (at home)...

I would imagine that it's done much like a standard gameport connection is accomplished...by hacking into a Gravis-type digital gamepad and soldering a female connecter's wires directly to the circuit traces inside (preferably with a switch for the independant fire button ground so you can still use the pad if you want).
