Atari-Tom #1 Posted March 4, 2015 I have a question on connecting Japanese consoles to a modern PAL lcd-TV. I am thinking of hooking Jap Famicom and other consoles to Japanese NTSC VCR and then onto a European PAL LCD TV via Scart or RCA. Do you reckon this could work? Ideas, suggestions? Thanks folks! Rybags #2 Posted March 4, 2015 Probably a waste of time, just hook straight to TV.
Atari-Tom #3 Posted March 4, 2015 Does not work when the console only has vhf output.. like Commodore Maxmachine or Gakken Compact vision. Especially in this case, would be good to know whether to invest in Jap VCR.
CatPix #4 Posted March 4, 2015 Probably a waste of time, just hook straight to TV.About 95% of PAL TV doesn't recognize a NTSC RF signal, only NTSC from composite. The VCR solution is the best and simplest one if you don't plan to mod your consoles (note that most consoles after the Famicom have composite output, si it's even simpler). Just check out if the Japanese VCR you plan to get have RCA or at least BNC video output, or else you'll only move the problem further.
Atari-Tom #5 Posted March 5, 2015 Kewl! Many thanks for confirming my assumptions on this! The VCR I am getting has a few outputs incl. S-Video, RCA, Composite, so I can also use it with other analogue decoding projects 😃
