Atari 7800 Arcade cabinet

Yesterday evening I went to a film festival in Brussels, Offscreen Festival, and in the bar there was a Ms Pac Man arcade cabinet, with clearly a 7800 in it

Hmmm...That is indeed a 7800 controller, but that is 2600 Ms. Pac-Man. It could have been a 7800 controller plugged into a 2600; wouldn't know for sure unless you saw it running a 7800 game as well. Still, a pretty cool encounter either way. Never came across anything like that personally (I live in the US though) - Not sure how rare that is elsewhere.

That could have been done so much nicer. The concept is there, the cab looks great but the controller just sitting there screams budget job.

Knowing the festival and the kind of people

Well, the cabinet looks great like a pretty lady that you scan from bottom to top and then when you reach the middle are like "GOOOOOOOOO!!"! Just wire the pads to buttons and joysticks. It's so easy, even I could do it!! Anyway, that's one beautiful cabinet! What I did on mine was wire Jaguar controls (flat padded and telephoned) and 7800 (monstorously finger freaking and wrist wreaking) controllers to the same Happ parts (competition grade controllers and buttons). I used a switchbox to seperate the 7800 buttons from the buttons that are shared.

 

I really love the orange and the style of the cabinet itself. The art is excellent and the design is a good choice. I just want to go there and wire controls to it...

That's what I was thinking. And 7800 Ms. Pac not 2600. Those 2 things would make that cab a total homerun.

If I am not mistaken, that looks like my Ms. Pac-Man Arcade hack from a couple years ago. Would be hilarious if it was.

 

As a member of KLOV, this machine is incredibly unfortunate from an arcade standpoint, though the concept is truly interesting and I do like the look of it.

A mini cabinet would have been super interesting as well.

No kidding. I have made custom joysticks myself. See the flicker albums in my sig. If this guy has the technical skills to build a custom enclosure, he should complete the job with real arcade parts. Just need a power drill and a 1¹/₈" hole saw, a joystick, and a couple buttons.

He may have great carpentry skills side & not on the electronic skills side. I am like that in reverse.
