Nintendo is starting to make mobile games

Recommended Posts

What do you think about this whole thing?Me personally,I just don't see Nintendo making smartphone apps because for some reason,it just dosent fit them. That being said,if it makes them a ton of money then I'd say go for it,I'd still love them just as much as I did before. Now what do you think about the whole endeavor?.Do you think its a good ideal or should they just stick to console and handheld games?

With smartphones and phablets being THE premiere entertainment platform of today; they'd be idiots not to take advantage of the huge installed base.

Whether it seems to "fit" them or not doesn't matter. Once them dafty flapper beancounters get whiff of huge profits they ain't gonna stop.

I thought it's not them making the games though right.. it's some existing company that makes free-to-pay games and now they can use Nintendo characters in partnership with them.

Phablets! Or Phatablets. lmao

Perfectly describes the trend of oversized crap you see people carrying around today. Looks downright ridiculous held up to their ear, but the sista's sure seem to love 'em.

The big 'N making apps? Sure... why not cash in on the next round of cheese fermenting today. Maybe they could bring Edutainment back to teach kids how to count, tell time, read and use proper grammar. ;)

Mario's analog time teller.

Goomba's cash register handling app.

Diddy Kong's difference of when to use 'a' vs. 'an'.

Princess Toadstool's Mix-a-match Tramp Stamp Extravaganza.

Wario's Mortgage Cost Comparator for Millennials.

Some ideas to get you started Nintendo. You're welcome. :rolling:

Yeah, that's the basic deal. It'll be DeNA making new games using nintendo characters. Nintendo themselves doesn't appear to be having much else to do with it.

So this means the people that make the notable Nintendo games won't be the ones making these smart phone games, and existing games won't be ported to smart phones. This pretty much nullifies the whole point the people harping about how nintendo should be porting their Nintendo games to smart phones etc. You won't be getting SMB1/2/3/World/etc or anything like that on a mobile phone. So the question is what kind of games will end up on there. Will it be free-to-pay garbage dressed up in mario clothes, or will it be full games that will cost many times more than what the majority of people are willing to pay for a smartphone game? There are so many ways they can drop the ball on this and then wonder what went wrong.

Which is what typically happens in big corporations. And it needn't be that way, if they'd take a dose of humility and listen to their customers..

Yeah, I'm all too not happy that Nintendo is selling out like this. I think the shareholders basically made Nintendo their b!tch and are now parading the big N around like a dog on a leash. Sorry if that sounds disturbing b/c it is...

They cant go the way they are going right now and last forever. This is a good thing if they do it right.

If millions will buy games at 2 bucks a pop (or more) and you get most of the profit why the hell not? They probably will make some mobile multiplayer games with in game micro transactions like Clash of Clans and Puzzles and Dragons (they are hooking up with these guys for sure). Those Clash of Clans folks generated over 800 million revenue and 400 million profit.

Still its a vast wasteland of garbage, the good thing though is that Nintendo games should stick out from the sea of crap so they hopefully will get noticed.....and if the games are actually good that's even better.

I see this more of a positive but yeah there could be problems like the ones mentioned in this article (towards the bottom):

http://www.wired.com/2015/03/nintendo-mobile-analysis/

"In other words, we’ll start to hear “Well, it’s nice, but why isn’t it on my phone?” more often. And as that shift keeps happening, consumers might start finding fewer reasons to buy Nintendo hardware. What that means for Nintendo’s games is anyone’s guess."

It's pretty obvious to see why they have to do this: you see kids everywhere playing on smartphones, standing in line at the store, at the Dr office, at the mall. The 3DS may be doing ok, but smartphones are everywhere... AND the power and graphics is generations better than the 3DS. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my 3DS... but I always have my iPhone 5S with me!

So we'll be seeing games like Hotel Mario I take it? ;)

I think Nintendo has been dropping the ball for the last 10 years. The Gamecube sold poorly next to it's competitors. The Wii may have sold like hotcakes, but best I can tell it was a "Fad". Everyone seems to have one but everyone I know had theirs stashed in a closet somewhere less than 6 months later after the novelty wore off and they went back to playing their Playstations or X-Boxes. The Wii U didn't have as big/flashy a novelty and didn't catch anyone's attention, especially people who realized their Wii's were gathering cobwebs somewhere, why buy another? The only people (which is TWO people) I know who bought a Wii U were diehard Mario/Zelda fans, beyond that no one really cares about Nintendo systems anymore. Even kids are much more inclined to play smartphone games than carry around a DS/3DS. If it wasn't for Pokemon I'd say those systems would be next to extinct as well. Sure sure sales figures and whatnot may look good, Nintendo has sold more consoles than "I" ever could, blah, blah... but compare sales to Sony and Microsoft. Mario is slowly becoming Pac-Man, by which I mean he's a character that everyone knows, recognizes and loves, but not everyone is actually playing their games, in fact very few are. The funny thing is IF Nintendo left the market, you'd be left with 2 companies that basically make the same system. I see VERY little difference between Playstations and XBoxes other than a handful of exclusive titles on each side. IF Nintendo folded, whatever system they decide to start putting games on would be the clear winner. Again to point out the lack of Nintendo console sales versus the love of Nintendo characters, if the latest Zelda game came out for PS4, it would probably sell more copies than the last couple Zelda games released COMBINED. Much like how RE4, which was and still is a classic/favorite/hit/etc, sold well, but sold even better after being ported to PS2 almost a year later with slightly poorer graphics (1.7 million sold on GCN versus 3.6 million sold on PS2). As good as it was people weren't willing to buy a Gamecube just to play it, but once it was available on their system of choice, it sold even better than it did originally. Same as Mario/Zelda/Whatever Nintendo IP, many people may enjoy the games, but aren't willing to buy a Nintendo console to play the, there's too many other good games on the other systems.

That's kind of the boat I'm in. I love nintendo, and Mario is my favorite game franchise of all time....however, many of their other franchises, they either abandoned, or ruined (IMO). And as the wii was simply to weak to run the popular third party games, and most of the other games were ruined by being shoehorned into working with a controller that was NOT AT ALL APPROPRIATE for it, it made the wii just a gimmick system and yes, just a few months after purchase it was collecting dust. The Wii U I see is EXACTLY the same thing (big over complicate GIMMICK controller, one major game I'd be interested in, on a platform to weak to run popular third party games. In other words, DOA.

Handheld? Nintendo has simply forgotten what made them big. That was being CHEAP (even the GBA released at a $100 price tag. And to be honest, in the case of handhelds, being a weaker platform is actually advantageous, since you had to go with last gen games, only you can refine them. Since it wasn't competing with anything with a similar price point, and handheld is expected to not keep up with the big consoles, it really couldn't loose, even if it was inferior to the competition.

As far as Cellphone games, yeah, good luck nintendo. I don't buy cellphone games, they just suck mostly due to lack of good control. (kind of sounds like a certain console) But untill Nintendo realizes the hardware price is what is killing then, they aren't going to really do any better with their handhelds.

I wonder how the 3DS would be doing, and comparing to cellphones, if it was $69 right now (the same price point as a brand new GBA at the same point in it's life span, instead of the $139 it currently is.

Today's consoles, with all their customizations, options, online DRM & DLC, multi-player, and stuff.. It's just too much!

I like the VCS. It tells you to sit down and shut up. Make do with this - and a single button joystick gets pushed in your face.
