Pixels - New Film

The world (humankind) has to grow up and develop further - progress positively towards a positive future - and it can do that with the assistance of the stories ( etc etc meaning mass media) it embraces. Hollywood could lead the way in doing this (at the same time as making money) but driven by accountants - who are conservative in nature, don't want to venture out and try new things out - that's why we have tons of remakes and sequels and prequels.

Anyway it is universal values contained within any film (story etc) that connects with the inner spirit within us, that the ego and personality is moved by - but also universal principles (eg. cause and effect, that history repeats and will keep on repeating until the lesson is learned) - that transcends culture and language barriers etc.

It is very simple as to which direction to turn to - either towards the light or the darkness, to what is right or wrong, that which is uplifting or to the oppressed.

And when the film/story contains mixed messages instead - then violence (murder and killing) is seen to be OK - for the hero to kill the villain, for revenge to be legitimate etc.

Like every space SHMUP, the object is to destroy wave after wave of baddies. Joke's on planet Earth though. In early era arcade games, the player can never win. The onslaught goes on forever. No matter if you're Billy Mitchel or whom ever, you'll always be presented with that iconic "Game Over" screen.

However, in the every story ever told regardless of format, there is an unspoken rule that the good guys always win. Yes, there are exceptions to the rule. But I get the impression the humans will win this round.

Yet this violates the very ethos of the golden age of the arcade: it is impossible to "win." And before anybody claims otherwise, yes, there do exist later generation arcade games where you can actually win with perserverance and infinite continues if you continue to supply the game with quarters.

But this is not the era of games with endings. All of the games featured so far are endless, sans glitch/kill screens. So how do the people win? Do the enemies simply give up? That would violate the spirit of the game. I am curious how the Pixels movie will handle this precarious conundrum:

TL;DR:

According to Arcade rules, humans cannot win. According to Hollywood rules, humans cannot lose. :dunce:

Great Scott! This is a paradox that could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the entire universe!... Granted, that's the worst-case scenario. The destruction might be limited to our own galaxy.

So, NOBODY go see the movie. :-)

The retrogaming community should acknowledge that we are living in science fiction times - you can have a wristband cellphone if you wish to - which can just about do anything, revolutionary cures are on the horizon for certain diseases - we could well have had bases on the Moon and Mars by now - if the leading countries opted not to develop nuclear arms instead - the same with cities under the seas. And cooperated instead towards using technology in positive outcomes. If we are to develop a peaceful future at all - it needs to be acknowledged - that all humans are equal as one another, and have equal right to be here. That disputes need to be settled peacefully with logic and reason (plain common sense) without resorting to war (ie. murder and killing). To a new age in which - the murder and killing must stop (that the violence cycle ends) - and likewise the bullying tactics that are used, like how religions resort to such methods (ie. programming) to forcefully entrench themselves within society.

But there is never the full acknowledgement of mankind's history and the story of where did we come from? That if earth humankind is of the order of 4 to 5 millions of years old - and during this time there was region wide cataclysms of one kind or another (meteorite strike, ice ages etc) - which could easily have forced any advanced civilisation back into starting all over again. There is the failure of our science fiction stories capitalizing on this - telling the story of how life developed on the various planets of our solar system, in it's early years, such that 3 planets were in the goldilocks zone of bearing life - and not only of animal and plant life, but human life also - and of civilisations - that of Earth, Mars and Malona (also called Phaeton - now the asteroid belt) - that war broke out such that Mars had it's atmosphere ripped away, and Malona destroyed. That our Earth did not have a moon - because no planet of Earth's size would have such an enormous Moon with it naturally. Mars has what appears to be two captured asteroids as it's moons.

All our cultures have stories of gods from the heavens (night sky) coming down and mating with their descendants - who could be said defined what royalty was, back then. Meaning that earth humans of themselves would have remained primitive without the mixing of alien DNA - and being taught the art of civilisation (or given the tools/foods/plants by which to multiply and prosper with).

I know this may all sound too fanciful to some - believing that man alone is responsible - without any outside help whatsoever - but if mankind did develop itself so very quickly over the last 12,000? years It only illustrates the large gap of history that we do not know of. The same applies to other worlds elsewhere and other human civilisations throughout the galaxy. That if we exist - then others like us, must also exist because life will follow the same kind of pattern where conditions for life exist. And when you have billions of years with billions of planets the likelihood of alien civilisations is not just a probability but a certainty.

If the mass media embraced the possibility of alien civilisations etc etc (who can equally be friendly - as opposed to hostile) - it would mean we would be ready and willing to meet them in real life.

I don't think that any alien civilisation would be friendly with us. If they were friendly, they'd see what we're like to each other and then decide that they'll have to change. But then if all of our wars stopped, our population would get even more out of control. It's already gone up from around 4 billion to over 7 billion in my lifetime.

Someone's been watching too much Ancient Aliens on H2 network. Basically anything that cannot be explained by modern science and archaeology = aliens.

I can guess why Ancient Aliens is more considered a comedy/joke than say a documentary - when viewers refer to circular logic/argument.

That - if this (ancient aliens) exists/is real - then our academics/scientists/etc would be verifying this data, instead of ignoring it.

That most people here probably would say - Oh sure, life does exist out there in the universe, just like us, etc etc - except they have not contacted Earth yet.

Never mind, that it is already in our various cultures ancient history, in which it is claimed to be so.

I don't agree with Ancient Aliens being accurate in what they present - in each specific example they bring up - but I'll agree with their idea(s) in general. That the sudden rise of civilisations - seem too incredible to be, by human effort alone? Perhaps the Romans illustrate how ingenious human engineering can be - without the aid of Aliens - but then, they had their own stories of gods and goddesses (ie. aliens) that they revered.

The rate of human technological growth is exponential. Look how many thousands of years it took humanity to go from hunters and gatherers to farmers to written language to advanced society to industrial revolution to electricity to computers to world wide web and global commerce / communication. Someday soon technology will hit critical mass. Then what comes next? Armageddon?

So it's really not that surprising humanity has advanced at break neck pace. Communication and sharing of ideas are huge parts of that with six billion people pooling resources instead of some lone caveman rubbing two sticks together to make fire.

Sometimes I wonder if these whack jobs earnestly believe the crap they are saying. My mom and I have tuned in on occasion, but usually we don't make if halfway through the episode before turning it off. Edited by stardust4ever
