Elvis8Atari
Probably a pretty basic question that's been answered a million times before. But how many Text-Number Atari carts were there? Any what were they exactly?

Wickeycolumbus
By the way, the AA rarity guide can be sorted by label variations. That said, it's considered to be out of date. http://atariage.com/label_page.html?LabelID=
Torr
Wow, that Star Ship cart bugs me... why would they center that ONE game's title when the rest are all left aligned?

chas10e
the compete boxed original 9 gatefold was a holy-grail type thing & seemed pretty obtainable higher priced items being the outer big box #11 Indy 500 with the Atari Branded driving controllers & #61 Basic Math I still need a couple manuals & a few catalogs / warranty cards but it's all about the thrill of the hunt a wider shot of the display case Most the games feature great multi-player player action , Blackjack has 3 player & honestly haven't played to much Basic Math .... but I was surprised you can use difficulty switches for timed games & such the loose carts should be really easy to find & should be a buck apiece or less you can easily spot them by the end label (that's of course if end label hasn't fallen off), but can also be spotted by looking at the face label numbered text underneath Atari logo re-issue text only label Edited March 24, 2015 by chas10e

chas10e
Noooooo, the big mess up here is that BLACK JACK IS NOT 21!!!!!!!!!!! I was wondering why the Sears brand of these games have different titles Nine. 01 Combat = Tank Plus 02 Air-Sea Battle = Target Fun 03 Star Ship = Outer Space 11 Indy 500 = Race 12 Street Racer = Speedway II 21 Video Olympics = Pong Sports 41 Surround = Chase 51 Blackjack surprisingly = Blackjack 61 Basic Math = (just) Math & also Atari re-titled it "Fun with Numbers"

+FujiSkunk
I was wondering why the Sears brand of these games have different titles Back in the day, Sears was in the habit of telling companies that if they wanted to sell their stuff at Sears, they had to have Sears-exclusive packaging. That's also why the Atari Video Computer System was rechristened the Sears Video Arcade for sale in Sears stores. Eventually around 1979 or 1980 or so, the games stopped being renamed, but it wasn't until 1982 and the silver-label era that they stopped making Sears-specific versions entirely. This was unheard of by Sears on its own branded products, it never had a manufacturer name on their brands. AtariAge - Sears
Torr
Whats with the numbering? I assume the first number was meant to be a prefix indicating the type of game. 0=Arcade/Action 01 Combat 02 Air-Sea Battle 03 Star Ship 1=Racing/Driving 11 Indy 500 12 Street Racer 2=Sports 21 Video Olympics Not sure why they skipped 3 4=?Miscellaneous? 41 Surround 5=Card/Casino Games 51 Blackjack 6=Educational 61 Basic Math Some of those Sears game titles make me wonder though. Speedway 2? Where's Speedway 1? Breakaway 4? Where's 1 through 3? Edited March 25, 2015 by Torr

Speedway 2? Where's Speedway 1? Breakaway 4? Where's 1 through 3? As I understand it, that was the idea with the numbering system. I think the 40-series games were supposed to be strategy games. I don't know why they skipped the 30s, either. Re: Speedway II: Sears had dedicated consoles called Speedway and Speedway IV (designed by Atari IIRC). I guess Speedway II was supposed to be part of that succession. Re: Breakaway IV: Sears' version of the Video Pinball console was called Pinball Breakaway, so that jives, but the IV stumps me. For up to 4 players maybe? Just speculating here, but the alternate Sears titles seem to have stopped once Atari themselves started licensing other titles like Space Invaders, Asteroids, Defender, and Pac-Man, and by that point they just didn't bother anymore (Demons To Diamonds and Math Gran Prix kept the Atari titles, for instance). +FujiSkunk
I believe the "II" and "IV" parts of those game names were supposed to represent the number of players, yes.
BassGuitari
I believe the "II" and "IV" parts of those game names were supposed to represent the number of players, yes. Except Speedway II also supported up to four players. I don't think we're any closer to an answer.
Torr
I believe the "II" and "IV" parts of those game names were supposed to represent the number of players, yes. I think Basic Math was the only game that DIDN'T support at least 2 players, so by that logic, just about every game should have ended with a 2 or higher! Two teams of players, then, one on each side of the screen? I dunno, try to think like a Sears marketeer.

Zwackery
There have been claims at finding cart "03" - Space Mission - as seen in this ad: http://www.atarimania.com/2600/boxes/hi_res/space_mission_text_cart_2.jpg as well as an "04" - Space Combat released by Atari, not Sears. Just throwing those in the ring to show the varied, wondrous, and contentious history of Atari.
