Just combining A8 gfx (GTIA + ANTIC) and a TV Screen & A Magnet gives the solution!!!

............. Just kidding. ;)

I think Mermaid's gfx arts look excellent, making maximal use of the VIC2 6569 benefits (v.e. hi-res, colour matrix) & restrictions (only 16 colours, dithering needed)

For A8 a totally different solution is needed. And we also see excellent A8 gfx artists here. I'd like to see more of that, like Irgendwer (Crises Crises!) :)

Okay, we know you don't like the screens, but I'd appreciate it if you'd use more tact than simply calling them "crap", to use one example.

Thank you,

..Al

The main problem is the revolving of those threads.

So what could be the cause, to start such a thread in an Atari Forum?

Making people jealous?

Trying to start people doing stuff for the A8?

Try to do something similar?

Or simply to start another discussion?

Btw: Those purple colours in the pictures appear simply by the fact that the brightness fits better with an importing tool.

Also that shizophrenic happening "The flaws of the C64 are well", "The flaws on the A8 are bad" ...

Analyzing, what have been done on the C64, do a sneak peep on that hardware specs, and try to build a solution for a possible program, by explaining and showing the possibilities and limitations , is the only way .... And well, it worked in some parts in the past already ;)

I'd rather see Ultima V ported over to the Atari than a remastered U4. After all, we already have U4 and have played it to death on the Atari.

That seems like a rather more massive undertaking than bug fixes and graphical flourishes, particularly considering the leap in complexity between IV and V.

Not really. C64 uses the same gamecode due to the "same" CPU. It's just the "same amount" as with Bug Fixes, to adjust the code to the A8. And then there had the sound and Graphics to be "remastered".

Yes, Emkay you're right and remember that 2012 thread where an outsider got Ultima V things directly modem transfered from C64 that sadly he didn't finished.

Only thing is because of the artifacting then some pixels must be changed.

The pictures can be redone today and I think that the best would be a good artist and we have some good ones, doing them in G2F because using Rasta Converter there will always be those lines and JAG using PAL Blending doesn't make sense because on the game playing scrolling with panel it's intended for NTSC Artifacting.

And I don't see a way to have this part of the game be other way then in hi-res and this way only good for NTSC guys.

In the case of that Ultima V Rob's wip the pictures must be that ones in hi-res because of the white text.

Problem on A8 is that the NTSC Artifacting are different from one machine to another, GTIA/CTIA, TVs where the two artifacting aren't the same to all, for example ones get water blue where others will see it brown or lilac/purple or whatever...

Something , like this, would be fair enough...

Emkay that of Popmilo is done in a way that the inside part has 20Bytes wide so you'll have freely two PMGs per each colour to cover all line and then you'll get two more colours.

In Ultima V the scroll part it's 22Bytes wide and don't work this way or you'll have to reduce the inside to 20Bytes wide.

But that video show that for a new game and done thinking on the PMGs colouring and the gfxs placed across the game map there's even the possibility to add more than two colours.
