cimerians #1 Posted April 2, 2015 Anyone get one or more? 4 hours left, I picked up a royal blue. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1670214687/original-commodore-64c-computer-housing-in-new-coo facebook with pics: https://www.facebook.com/com64kickstarter?ref=bookmarks
jaybird3rd #2 Posted April 2, 2015 That project is a bit confusing. I want to support them, but all I really want is an original-style beige or transparent case, not a red, blue, or white case. Unfortunately, beige and transparent aren't among the reward options to choose from. I know you can get a beige or transparent case as an "add-on", but that means I'd also have to buy one of the other colors that I don't want. Why not just add beige and transparent to the rewards?
+remowilliams #3 Posted April 2, 2015 Yeah I'm not found of the 'buy a color you don't want to get the one you do' way its tiered, though it seems transparent (haha!) as to why...
cimerians #4 Posted April 2, 2015 Yeah I found that confusing too and still don't know why they are doing that other than knowing people won't buy the colored ones as much...I also wanted a clear one but I figured what the hell, I need something so I spit 35 bucks at it. Hopefully its as good as it looks etc. edit: Actually I just asked him about it. Lets see what he says.
+OLD CS1 #5 Posted April 2, 2015 Only the blue, red, and white colors are available to basic backers. If you want the clear and beige colors, you have to back one of the main colors first, then you go through an add-on process.
jaybird3rd #6 Posted April 2, 2015 I went ahead and did the add-on for a beige and transparent case, but I'm still not especially happy that I had to buy a white one along with them. Maybe this is the only way to get a positive return on the specialty colors. Now, all I need to do is pick up a C64C as a "donor" before everyone else has the same idea and drives eBay prices through the roof ...
+sm3 #7 Posted April 2, 2015 I'd be really surprised if after the Kickstarter campaign, he didn't make additional cases. He probably will not use the original case colors that are in the campaign (as I think it states) but I'm betting he will offer different colors or maybe the original "beige". In my opinion, the success of the Kickstarter has proven to him that there is a small market out there for these items. He also has the 128 and Plus/4 case molds. Keatah #9 Posted April 2, 2015 Alternative to retrobrighting.
jaybird3rd #10 Posted April 2, 2015 Alternative to retrobrighting. Indeed! It makes me wish we still had the original injection molds for other classic computers. I'd love to see new Apple ][ shells. I wonder if it would be worth it to put UV-resistant spray on these new cases (except the transparent one, of course) so that the discoloration never happens. +sm3 #11 Posted April 2, 2015 These new cases will be great to use with the C64 Reloaded (when it's finally released). http://wiki.icomp.de/wiki/C64_reloaded
landgraf #12 Posted April 2, 2015 The transparent one looks sexy, if a chip catches fire you'll see it instantly! Apart from that I don't really understand why there is a demand for new cases, as the original cases are usually less prone to crap out compared to e.g. CIA chips and old style PLAs. Because a lot of the original cases look like this (or worse): https://stopxwhispering.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/c64.jpg
+sm3 #14 Posted April 2, 2015 The project is now "funded" with 797 backers.
+OLD CS1 #15 Posted April 3, 2015 He also has the 128 and Plus/4 case molds. I must have missed that... I would not be opposed to replacing my 128 case. What I would really like to do is put a clear front on my C128D.

Yeah, it was in the updates I think. He also states that he will do more colors.
+OLD CS1 #18 Posted April 3, 2015 I checked out the C64 Reloaded... NICE! Now, it says it has two ROM configurations which are switchable with the RESTORE key. Cool, but I would really like JiffyDOS capability, unless one of the ROM sets has the ability to transparently implement burst-mode transfers (doubtful, but would be pretty neat.) Seeing as I just got around to installing Jiffy in my 64C, I as well sure hope that is the case
+sm3 #20 Posted April 3, 2015 I'm sure one of your kernal ROMs can be JiffyDOS. I'd be surprised if he doesn't support the Turbo Chameleon 64 (which is his product), 1541 Ultimate 2 or Easy Flash 3, all which allow you to switch out/in a kernal replacement so no real ROM chip is necessary. cimerians #21 Posted April 3, 2015 Didn't know about C64 Reloaded! Nice! Right now I have a C64s with a 1541 Ultimate 2....was thinking of sticking the blue shell on it but the next update he sent out said a survey will go out where you can order any remaining LE cases or clear or original cases. I might drop some money to get one more.
Commodore #22 Posted April 13, 2015 For anyone that has supported this project and will be getting a new C64 case then you may want to also check this other Indiegogo campaign that has been started by someone else, which will be producing coloured keys for C64 keyboards!! http://igg.me/at/Keycaps4Commodore I found out about this earlier today and backed the project.
