NullDC on Dell Inspiron N5050....What setting do i use?

Recommended Posts

Im having trouble getting nulldc to run at or around 60 fps. It sometimes jumps to 60-65 but right now usually hangs around 35. I'm not sure what plugins I need or what to set the settings at. computer specs are:

Dell N5050

Windows 7

4GB of ram

500 gb hdd

Intel HD graphics 3000

NullDC 1.0.4

The CPU on that isn't going to be beefy enough for Dreamcast emulation, especially if it's the Core i3 base model. The Intel HD graphics aren't helping either. Laptops are generally a poor fit for emulation for those reasons.

and to think, I nearly had Sonic Adventure running on a Pentium 4 HT 2.8 with intel xtreme graphics at 64 mb. One would think this newer machine would pull it off with no problem. People were doing this with older machines back around 2008-2009 with no problem.

No. People were not emulating Dreamcast on older machines in 2008/2009. Are you perhaps confusing the multiple Dreamcast to PC ports which were released?

are there any options at all? Is nulldc the best? My old Pentium 4 HT ran sonic adventure faster than this. Speed was actually near perfect but I had a few graphic issues like the beach sand looked like water.

I believe they were.....Take a look at this post dated April 2007.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. What I meant to communicate was that Dreamcast emulation was far from running at full speed back then. It's possible there was a build at one point that incorporated various hacks to get Sonic running, but I'm not aware of anything like that. Dreamcast emulation is extremely CPU intensive, unless certain components are faked or simply not emulated, as is the case with Reicast.

Ah ok. Probably just pick up a Dreamcast next month. How good is Reicast? I have an RCA RCT6378W2 7" Tablet. Would that run well?

Recast is okay, but you really need a Tegra 4 or faster device to get the most out of it. Overall game compatibility is lower than NullDC.

It can run on that system, but it'll still be slow for a bunch of supported games.

I honestly wouldn't suggest going out of your way trying to get NullDC working. It's still extremely rough around the edges and you'll likely find that a decent number of games you want to play don't work properly. NullDC is nice to use in conjunction with a real system, but it's far from being in a position to be used as a primary way of playing Dreamcast games.
