ShosMeister #1 Posted April 12, 2015 Topic was hard to pick and be descriptive enough. Basically, I have a .bas file I found on here and downloaded so it's sitting on my HD. Is there a way through an emulator or APE to copy that file onto an .atr?
fujidude #2 Posted April 12, 2015 Topic was hard to pick and be descriptive enough. Basically, I have a .bas file I found on here and downloaded so it's sitting on my HD. Is there a way through an emulator or APE to copy that file onto an .atr? I know there is more than one way, but just one comes to mind at the moment that I can give any amount of detail for sure... You can use Altirra. Configure Altirra to use SpartaDOS X (4.4x) and to enable the PCL: system. Configure SDX to load the PCL driver. Mount a .atr image to a emulated drive. The PCL area can be accessed both from your emulated Atari and your host PC. It's more to set up but once you do, it's pretty easy to use. That's how I do it day to day. Less steps also use Altirra... go to tools -> disk explorer. Open an .atr image. Drag and drop in and out.
ShosMeister #3 Posted April 13, 2015 Thanks for the input. Is Altirra a separate emulator? Does it run inside another emulator? APE? Real disks and/or .atr or just .atr? Thanks!!!
fujidude #4 Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) Altirra is an emulator. It has nothing to do with APE, other than it can use .ATR files as "disks" on the emulated Atari. APE isn't the originator of .ATR files anyway. Nick Kennedy is with his SIO2PC design. Anyway, get yourself Altirra today! 2.60 is the latest stable version. 2.70 is in pre-release and it's developer is VERY active on Atari Age. Phaeron is the user on AA. Here is the web site for the stable release: http://www.virtualdub.org/altirra.html Edited April 14, 2015 by fujidude
Keatah #5 Posted April 14, 2015 Altirra is the premiere Atari 8-bit emulator!
ShosMeister #6 Posted April 15, 2015 Don't really need an emulator unless it has a build for the RetroPie which already has an Atari emulator that handles 2600, 5200, Lynx, 400/800, etc. so should be good on that front. Appreciate the input though!!!
fujidude #7 Posted April 16, 2015 Your question was how to get a file sitting on your hard drive into an .ATR file. One of the best and easiest ways to do that is Altirra's "disk explorer" tool. Even though Altirra is an awesome A8 emulator, you can just ignore that and not use it for emulation. Just use it for the tool and think of it as only an .ATR utility then. ShosMeister #8 Posted April 16, 2015 Dude, thanks!! I'll definitely take a look at it. It's already easy to use WinSCP/SSH to get .atr files from desktop to the Pie so if I can use Altirra's tools to add/remove individual files from the .atr disks, that would be great.
