Using Classic99 to read FIAD help

I got some FIAD files from the TI Game Shelf but when I try to use them on the CS1er to turn them into sound files, it crashes the program. I am trying to use the Classic99 emulator to test these files but I am new to emulators and can't figure it out. I try putting my files in the DSK1 folder and typing "OLD DSK1.PROGRAMNAME" and I keep getting an error 50/52/57. What am I doing wrong?

Are the files unarchived? Are they XB programs, and if so, is XB loaded into your cartridge slot in Classic99?

 

If they are archived, you can unarc them using Classic99. Also, true FIAD files should not have extensions (like .arc, .bin)

I/O errors are two parts - the first digit is the operation type - '5' means OLD. Of course, you knew what you were doing already. ;)

 

The second digit is the error. They mean:

 

0 - bad name (ie: 'DSL1' instead of 'DSK1' - the device does not exist)

1 - write protected

2 - bad attribute (like not matching the file type)

3 - illegal operation (like opening a printer in READ mode)

4 - buffer (or disk) full

5 - read past end of file

6 - device error (usually something like a bad disk)

7 - file error (generic error for everything else)

 

In Classic99, you aren't limited to the original error message. When you get a disk error you don't understand, select Edit->Debugger, and just read the text log. It will often say exactly what went wrong - if it's not clear, paste that log here for better help. :)

 

I downloaded one of the TIFILES files from GameShelf, and it looks like it's not archived (at least, an XB one wasn't), but it did come down with a 'bin' extension. Classic99 uses the /exact/ filename on the disk, so make sure you either rename it to be sensible, or type it all. ;)

Perhaps if you zipped.up your DSK1 folder and.posted it here, we could help diagnose the issue. :)

So how do I tell if the file is archived?

EDIT: nvm, I think I figured out that "-arc" means it was archived. Also, thanks.

i.e. the chec-arc in the ZIP tells it to you by the name-extension that it is arced (in this case it is like an extension)

I just have tried it (my first time too :)

Place the CHEK-ARC i.e. in the DSK2-folder

Then load the E/A-Module, goto Option5 and load&run DSK1.ARC303G

Then use the dialog to UnArc it (i.e. from DSK2 to DSK2)

Then reset and go to TI-Basic and say OLD DSK2.CHECKERS and RUN

worked for me

Okay now what about this. Why does the CS1er keep crashing when I try to convert an fiad to wav? I am using Windows 7 64-bit btw.

 

EDIT: I decided that I should also mention that I am using Version 0.95b.

hmm, don´t know.

 

in my case, the CS1er starts, but after converting he pops up with a 2nd window, asking for a filename,

which I only can stop with the windows-taskmanager ... (?)

I took another WAV-file now, CS1er converts that...

But I don´t know how to save it.... alien.FIAD ?

But how to mount that file in Classic99 ? as FIAD?

ah OK, which version is it ? same as mine 0.96b ? (I just took the next I found to test it for you ;)

Yep, the version I was using before was 0.95b until I discovered that there's a version 0.96b.
