Playing 2600 Online with PCAE and Kaillera

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I'm trying to get the above to work, running into the first showstopper -- Can't get the Win version of PCAE to run on a Win 8 machine. Has anyone had success?

Ultimate goal, play Atari 2600 online with a pal.

Will also try this with Atari800Win, which, I believe, also has integrated Kaillera support.

Thanks!

It's not gonna work. And if it does, the lag will be abysmal on the client side. A friend and I tried this in a school computer lab in 2004 with an NES emulator and both of us sitting side by side (both PCs connected to the same hub) and the lag was awful. Throw in online lag across the world, and things will go south from there. Think maybe a second or so between the input and movement onscreen. It will suck hard if it works at all.

There's a long, yet detailed and informative, thread here about that very subject. I believe the consensus was that it's possible, but very difficult to make it possible.

I see the threads. Sad that it seems to be a no go. still, i\d love to hear from anyone that has gotten this to work in any fashion on an 2600 or a8 emu.
