mark #1 Posted April 4, 2003 Why is it that rare 2600 carts fetch more than any other system? Even extremely rare nes games fetch maybe $20 by the book and nowhere near value of a quadrun. Is it supply and demand? or popularity? both? Do you think rare nes carts could equal the value of 2600 carts in the distant future? The nes probably isn't as popular as the 2600 but it may be close and if so why the huge price gap between the 2? Just something im pondering.
MegaManFan #2 Posted April 4, 2003 Rare Atari carts fetch more because they are harder to find and more aggressively collected. At any given time I'd venture to say there are more people looking for damn near mythical Atari games like Air Raid, Gauntlet, Motorodeo and Eli's Ladder than there are people looking for Bubble Bath Babes or Hot Slots. Mock #3 Posted April 4, 2003 I agree...the 'collector' base is much more hardcore than the NES base is, and the general production numbers are probably smaller among Atari carts than the rare NES carts...then by nature of time elapsed vs. production sate you get a better curve for value in Atari. SteelerFan #4 Posted April 4, 2003 Give it some time and we might see more "hardcore" collectors out here looking for NES material. The ER or Rare items for the NES might be worth much more in the coming years. As more collectors enter the hobby , they will see that the Atari stuff is becoming more difficult to find in the "wild". I myself am looking more and more at NES stuff! When I go out searching, I no longer expect to see Atari game and systems, but I almost always see some NES stuff! STEELERFAN

Atari Master #6 Posted April 7, 2003 Well, NES is becoming the next Atari. Thats why I'd rather collect NES. Just games I can relate to and try to get a collection going before it gets hyped up.

On an interesting side note, I've been watching this 10 day auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...3016893027&rd=1 On day 9 it was up to $120 already. I've never seen an NES cart go that high that fast. It's not even complete.
