Mega Man vs Rockman, which to buy?

Recommended Posts

I think we can all agree that the original Mega Man has gotten pretty expensive in stores and online. I've got the opportunity to get a real Rockman cart really cheap. For some reason, and maybe I'm being way too much of a purist, it just doesn't feel the same to have a copy of Rockman over having a copy of Mega Man, although I know they are identical.

Would any of you feel the same, or am I just being too picky?

I have Mega Man and Mega Man 2, but Rockman 3-5. It doesn't bother me in the least. In fact, if Rockman v. Mega Man gets cheap enough, I may sell my US copy for a JP one. I already did that with a couple games, including Super Castlevania IV. Same game, why would it bother me?

It depends on how much of a purist you are and how much money you want to spend.

Personally, I'm about saving money so if I were to buy the carts, I'd do the Japanese ones these days. It feels so much better to me having original NES carts, but they aren't worth the money half the time nowadays.

Want to go one step further? Ditch the collecting game completely and buy a flash cart. Then you can have both the US and Japanese versions on the same cart. ;)

I'm not a purist myself. I have the original 8 games. Except for the 7th one on the SNES. It is Rockman 7. Because I don't want to pay at least $100 for a loose cart of Mega Man 7. I have MM7 in my SNES emulator on my modded xbox and all of the Rock Man games as well. I love to get 8 for the Saturn. In that one you can play Cut Man and Wood Man in that version. I paid $15 for Rock Man 7 for the Super Famicom. Like the above post. All about whichever comes at a great price. It's the same thing. Except the dialogues are in different languages.

Personally, I'd rather buy an NES flash-cart than force myself to invest money into a jap-to-US cartridge adaptor. Also, reading japanese text while I'm playing "cheapens" the gameplay experience when I know an english version of the same game exists. So you can call me a purist. :)
