How long have you been a member, remember Atari Nexus?

Recommended Posts

I never really used the internet much till 99-00. And never really searched for atari stuff till 02 or 03. Was too busy getting drunk and playing in bands with all my free time.

I am going to subscribe to Atariage for the rest of my life tho.. I wish they had a lifetime membership option..

I've had the internet since 1997. The good ole days of AOL dialup. I browsed through Nexus, but due to busy schedules, working, and also hanging out with friends often during my late teens and throughout my 20's. I've finally settled as I hit my 30's. And became a member 3 years ago tomorrow. But did sporadic activity on here. Since early 2015. I've really enjoyed it and done more posting and activities on here. And I will eventually become a subscriber.

It was the late '90's and despite having a wall full of Atari boxes, I was considering donating my collection to an orphanage. The thinking behind that was, the hobby is dead, the games were worthless, no one with ANY interest in video games would want to play on such an archaic system, nothing new would EVER be produced for it, and I was no longer an active participant in the hobby, plus I was starting to think of myself as the only person on the planet who went berserk collecting for the 2600 in the '80's.

Out of curiosity I went browsing (using my dial-up Prodigy account) and discovered The Nexus. I didn't "join" but I DID have some great correspondence with Alex Bilstein and, through his encouragement, started contributing HTML adaptations of manuals. It was because of Alex and the vast amount of info and helpful links I found on the site that I got back into the hobby. It's fairly common knowledge that as Alex became less involved and Albert more so, The Nexus evolved into AtariAge, and well done I might add.

Still, I miss Alex even though I never had the opportunity to meet him. However, I WAS fortunate enough to meet Albert at CGE in 1999 and feel privileged to know him. His answers to questions about Alex were oddly vague so I concluded (and playfully told him so) that he and Alex were really the same person. He showed me a picture of the two of them together, but, you know... Photoshop...

Pardon my ignorance, but whatever happened to Alex?

Dropped out of the hobby and moved on to other things. It happens.

I frequently checked out the rarity guide at 2600Nexus when I was getting back into buying games for my Atari around 1999-2000. I didn't lurk the forums until it became AtariAge and I didn't join until 2003. I also liked checking out Electric Escape, Monroe's World, Digital Press, and some other sites I can't remember.
