Making Holes In The Peripheral Expansion Box

Recommended Posts

While I'm waiting on other things to be compted and released like speech interfaces and new controller cards, I thought I'd work on my backup box for something to do. With this in mind, I need to ask, what is the best tool to use to make two GOOD QUALITY holes? I need to make a round one and a square one. I've been thinking a Dremel tool might work on the steel on the back of the P-Box, but I'm wondering if there is a better approach. Any ideas? Thanks.

For Round Holes I always prefer a Hole Saw made specifically to cut metal with very fine teeth. (The photo is just for reference) They come in all sizes.

I am not sure what would be the best for a square one but a Dremel wouldnt be too bad.

not sure if a dremel will be heavy enough to really cut through the steel with precision.

I always have drawn it and if you do not have access to a milling machine or it can't be milled because of odd shapes etc.. Use the biggest drill bet you can and go behind with lots of patience with a high RPM pneumatic rotary tool with some heavy duty bits. Just take your time..

If you have access to a Greenlee duct punch, you can use it to punch some square holes through metal--they come in various sizes, but they're an industrial tool you won't easily find. . .unless you know someone that does electrical conduit work.

Thanks guy's. Now I think I'll tear the box down and take it to a metal shop to get punched professionally. After pricing the 'right tools for the job', I figure it'll be cheaper than buying a proper punch and a hole saw that in all likelihood will only be used once.

Having trouble cutting accurate holes in the body of your PEB?, don't put up with inferior hand tools that give that all too familier DIY look.

Get yourselves a new Tiger Mk II main battle tank, cutting holes in that old PEB chassis is no longer an issue with the new improved Tiger II.

With it's new improved 88mm KwK 43/ L71 gun-penetration of PEB's is a piece of cake.

Manufacturers disclaimer, improper us of the Tiger mkII can lead to impulsive acts of death and destruction, the manufacturer can under no circumstances be held

responsible for outbreaks of anti semitism or the need for world domination whilst in charge of the Tiger MkII.

And up here in Canada, with our Gun Control, I have to make do with a lowly Dremmel!

Think someone might be willing to ship me a dissasembled Tiger II and declare it as "gift - used computer parts"?

Aside from getting your FAC and a short wait what do you find so controlling about our gun laws? :?

Absolutely nothing. Nada. Zilch.

In fact, I'm quite happy with our gun laws exactly as they are.

I am also the son of a hunter, so I know exactly how to acquire a firearm (easily, quickly and legally) on this side of the border.

But within the context of a thread where using Tiger II tanks to drill holes into a Peripheral Expansion Box has been raised, my comments should not have been construed to hold any basis in reality whatsoever! Nor should they have been assumed to have been a reflection of any real opinion I might have.

Although I do think Ed in SoDak was serious about using a tank for gopher hunting, which is a bit scary when you think about it.

If this thread was actually meant to make you think about anything.
