Serial port reset

Recommended Posts

I've always used the C64 user expansion port for the reset and it's safe to do it that way. I have heard of serial port reset but that trick didn't work on all models. IIRC the pin 1 and 3 of the user port is all you need. Solder a pair of wires to the board (as far from edge as possible if you plan to plug device there) and wire them to a N.O. push button.

I've tried both, and they worked for me. Perhaps not all clone drives supports the reset pin?

If you want a reset button that does not reset the drive, I suppose you could make a reset button with an IEC through and some diode to prevent the signal to travel through the cable, but I never investigated this more closely.
