7800 Centipede Arcade

Recommended Posts

This 7800 Centipede update needs its own thread, not buried here in the weeds of a Coleco compare/contrast thread. :)

Ask and you shall receive.

..from the previous topic:

http://atariage.com/forums/topic/214447-colecovision-vs-7800-vs-5200/?p=3250926

Yes, I have updated the mushrooms graphics (now softer and closer to the arcade).

In addition, I have updated the eyes and the animation of the Centipede (now his feet are no longer alternate) and I used the arcade score font.

About the player graphic, unfortunately it is not possible to use both 160 mode and 320 mode on the same line.

I'd love to. I need to talk to kenfused to ask for his kind authorization.

I'm pleased to announce that kenfused has given me his kind authorization. :)

Thank you very much, Ken!

Hmm.. any way to get a 'complete' version with these mods that allows for both stick AND trackball support? Atari Trackballs, while nice, are not exactly EASY to come by these days...

Marco,

I'll help put the joystick control back in if we keep it simple by using the A/B switch to select the controller. Did kenfused create a disassembly when he added trackball support? It would save some work if you could get a hold of it.

Thank you, Perry! You're very kind. :)

I will ask to kenfused if he has created a disassembly.

To get this new version (supporting two Trakballs in Trakball mode) on a cartridge running on PAL 7800 machine... oh that would be great :)

I play Missile Command TB with my CX80 and love it!

So far the only game I now supporting the Trakball mode, which is available on cartridge...

Here some updates, I have edited the graphics of the damaged mushrooms and the graphics of the poisoned mushrooms.
Curiously, in the original 7800 version the sprites of the poisoned/damaged mushrooms change the color and graphic detail instead in the arcade version they change only the color so I have corrected this difference.

I've also updated some colors/details on the title screen.

This is so awesome guys... Concerto will not come soon enough. Will you be releasing a78 files compatible with the upcoming Concerto?

THIS. I'd love an .a78 to try on my Concerto.

all I can say is WOW. Played this for hours last night, just SO GREAT! Any chance to add POKEY support? plays great on the concerto.

I'm guessing the audio would have to be lifted from the A8/5200 versions of Centipede…the arcade had Dual POKEYs if I recall.

Okay then, it's Millipede then that has Dual POKEYs. Then again, maybe I'm mixing it up with Crystal Castles on the POKEY question.

...I found this mockup in my hard disk :) :

Hi everyone,

it's been a long time since my last update here, however some things are moving behind the scenes, so there will be some interesting news ...

For now, let's start with my latest binary file of "Centipede Frameless tb v.3 " and other two alternative versions : "Centipede Dark Bezel tb" and "Centipede Arcade Bezel tb". These versions remained in a dormant state on my hard disk for a few years but they are complete and perfectly playable. Centipede "Arcade Bezel" tb is born thanks to an nice idea from Trebor :).

Here's a complete list of changes :

    - removed / updated the frame-border around the playfield.

    - re-draw the mushrooms graphics (now softer and closer to the arcade).
    - edited the graphics of the damaged mushrooms and the graphics of the poisoned mushrooms.
    - updated the eyes and the animation of the Centipede (now his feet are no longer alternate).
    - tweaked the graphics of the spider.
    - used the arcade score font.
    - updated the text font (options menu).
    - updated some colors / details on the title screen.
    - included the "TB" graphics on the title screen.

There will be other interesting news so stay tuned!

Cheers,
Marco

Note: all versions above only support Trak-Ball control.
Instead, the first "Frameless" version that supports joystick / pad controls can be found here.

Trebor reminded me that I forgot to share the version of Centipede "Arcade Bezel" with joystick / gamepad support only. Thanks Robert.

Note: This version is very old and does not include all the graphical updates of the "tb" versions. The only difference from the original version is the removal of the frame-border around the playfield which I replaced with the "Arcade Bezel". However, all missing graphics changes will be included in the next "Deluxe" release.
