roadrunner #3 Posted June 14, 2015 Thanks I guess most of those dust shields got thrown away?
+DrVenkman #4 Posted June 14, 2015 Thanks I guess most of those dust shields got thrown away? Most of them fell out of the carts, were lost and/or degraded into dust over the years. Neat to find one still there and intact.
roadrunner #5 Posted June 14, 2015 I guess i should put this game into a ziplock bag or something to preserve it.
Philflound #6 Posted June 14, 2015 The white foam usually stands up better than the black. If you click the Activision carts on my website, I explain on the website about the foam. Never actually listed the games on this page, but if you go to the games themselves, you can see in the description which games had foam. Only the earliest titles had the foam. I explain about the "teeth" too. http://www.videogamevariations.com/AtariCompanies/ActivisionGames/general_activision.htm Phil

CPUWIZ #8 Posted June 15, 2015 Those are how activision originally shipped there games, with the foam dust shield. Cool pick up. I have opened several sealed Activision carts and I can not say I have ever seen one inside a sealed box. This was mostly to figure out if the cart inside was blue or not (e.g. Ice Hockey, I had 15 sealed ones at one point), since the barcode on the bottom theory is not always correct. I have seen them multiple times before though. I think I have one or two, that are probably dust by now.

I have seen them multiple times before though. I think I have one or two, that are probably dust by now. Wouldn't Ice Hockey be too late to have the foam? My understanding was that only the first four releases could possibly have the foam. I currently have 3 with the foam cover, 2 Fishing Derby and 1 Boxing, which would correspond to this theory, as does the Dragster above. However, all of these were found loose. dustygraves. #10 Posted June 15, 2015 i have boxing with white foam and until it disintegrated i had fishing derby with black foam protector.
Philflound #11 Posted June 16, 2015 (edited) It looks like all 1980 games had the foam, either one or both colors. Boxing has had both color foam types. Bridge has had white. Checkers has had both color. Dragster has had both. Fishing Derby has had both. Skiing has had black foam. Some but not all 1981 had teeth, meaning they probably were shells left over and were used up before the new shells were made. Freeway has teeth, but never foam. Kaboom has teeth, no foam. Laser Blast has teeth no foam. Tennis has teeth no foam. BTW, if I'm thinking correctly, I confirmed all the foam types listed. I've had thousands of carts over the years. In fact I used to remove the foam when I first got into collecting, and now wish I hadn't. Though like people said, they disintegrate rather easily, especially the black. Keatah #12 Posted June 16, 2015 I had purchased all the activision carts as soon as they showed up in the stores. Never ever saw that. Did people know that you had to move it? Or'd they just stuff it in the console as is?
Philflound #13 Posted June 16, 2015 It goes in fine. If it is falling apart though, I probably would suggest removing it as you don't want particles getting jammed inside the 2600 unit. Phil
dustygraves. #14 Posted June 16, 2015 (edited) although i cant confirm it because i dont own this lable variant, i have seen the international lable of freeway with white foam this was a few years ago wish i could have picked it up(. acctually what i meant to say is i have this version with the teeth / no foam but have seen it with foam. Philflound #15 Posted June 16, 2015 I've never come across a Freeway with foam. Like I just mentioned, all 1980 games had foam, no 1981 games had it so far with any proof. Phil
Trade-N-Games #16 Posted June 16, 2015 I have a dragster and checkers witht the foam in them for sale if anyone wanted the variation. I would guess most Ebay sellers would not make this note. http://www.tradengames.com/store/pc/showsearchresults.asp?pageStyle=H&resultCnt=&keyword=activision+foam&submit=Go
