djdsl #1 Posted April 7, 2003 (edited) So i finished my first song using Paul Slocum's sequencing kit. Thought i'd share it here with the community. It's called Weapons of Past Distractions. Unzip it and load it into your Atari or emulator and let me know what you think. DJdsl-wopd.bin [EDIT] For the record, this is not a public domain file. Moved the file to my server and renamed 'bk2600 wopd' Get it here: http://burnkit2600.com/gear/?p=25 Edited March 9, 2006 by djdsl
ATARI TROLL #2 Posted April 7, 2003 Awesome! What did you create the song with-program wise? Cheers
djdsl #3 Posted April 7, 2003 hi Troll, Im glad you liked it. The program I used was again Paul Slocum's Sequencer Kit. You can check it out here: http://www.qotile.net/sequencer.html it's time consuming, but really cool. You write out the song in machine language and the bin is assembled by the kit. foxglove9 #4 Posted April 8, 2003 Interenet Explorer doesn't want to download that file. Is there any other way to access it?
Paul Slocum #5 Posted April 8, 2003 What happens when you try to download it? And the song is really cool! -Paul
foxglove9 #6 Posted April 8, 2003 Internet Explorer couldn't recognize the file type but I got it downloaded anyway. Unfortunately it locks up my computer when I run it through Stella (1.2). Too bad...
gulag picture radio #7 Posted April 8, 2003 I tried using Stella for the song, and the tempo was very unsteady. Is there a better emulator for this music that I should be trying?
Paul Slocum #8 Posted April 8, 2003 Try Z26 for Windows: http://www.whimsey.com/z26/z26.html -Paul
djdsl #9 Posted April 8, 2003 Thanks Paul for the praise and all your help. Sorry i cant help you foxglove with the internet explorer and crashing. gulag - ive gotten great results with z26, but the tempo is unsteady when you run other programs. i like z26's sound best, compared to a real atari, the sound its only slightly thinner and the tempo clocks a little faster. I wish z26 could have an option to pan the 2 oscillators to the left and right. that would make song developing a little easier. Im going to try and tackle a drum and bass track next using mainly two panned drum tracks.. so that would be key.
gulag picture radio #10 Posted April 9, 2003 Per Paul's suggestion I tried Z26 a little bit ago. Cool sounding song. I still haven't tried running stuff on my Supercharger. Gotta do that because I'd like to hear your song on the real thing. Nice work! I still haven't had a chance to look at the sequencer kit because I haven't had the time to really study it - gotta set aside some time, as I am no programmer. djdsl #11 Posted April 9, 2003 Thanks GPR, After as few hours with the sequencer kit youll gt the hang of it, its fun once you get rolling. im no progrrammer either - wait a minute i guess i am now.. . kinda sorta. I wonder if anyone would be interested in hearing the end product of what the track sounds like when i play through my modded atari with the EQ, effects and stuff on it. maybe ill get an mp3.com page or something. gulag picture radio #12 Posted April 9, 2003 Definitely. What Paul has squeezed out of the Atari unmodified is really amazing, and I give all props to his mad skills. (I feel so cool when I talk like that...) However I think that the Atari's output can only be improved with 'verb and EQ. When I did my little piece with Synthcart, I found myself tweaking almost every sound. I also learned that the pulse-type sounds that come out of the Atari can give a guy a monster headache on headphones in only a few minutes. Wow. Anyway, I ended up using a lot of different stuff including a vocoder and some other FX to beef up the Atari's already beefy sound. MP3's are the way to go so that we're hearing it the way that you are - don't have to worry about different speeds of emulators on different machines, etc. Lay it on us bro! Cassidy Nolen #13 Posted April 9, 2003 Dude, You got a knack for that sort of thing. I am very impressed. Great sound, love the "video", too! Its a lot better than the pop-junk on the radio now! Seriously, I do not have the time right now, but if someone out there would be so kind, can we make this guy a cart of this? I would supply the eprom (I could do it next month, but I am still trying to fill Polo orders.....) Cassidy Very motivated now to try on own....:
djdsl #14 Posted April 10, 2003 Hey thanks Cassidy, I cant take any credit for the 'video' of course- thats all Paul's program. Id love a cart of the song! I doubt anyone else would have any use or it, but man.. I would. GPR- I keep changing my effect settings for it, but i'll crank something out and see about getting the MP3 page pronto. Gateway #18 Posted September 19, 2009 Just found this available on cartridge while googling for something else.. here is his site: http://www.burnkit2600.com/burnkit2600-weapons-of-past-distractions/ I just listened to part of it in z26. It's slow at first, but the beat is catchy around the 90 second mark. He made a limited run of carts for this. Not sure how many were made. So, who here owns this? The site says he SOLD OUT! Now I want a copy for my collection!
