Ghosts'n Goblins Arcade

Recommended Posts

2015 has been a good year for the Commodore 64. First we got the wonderful Bruce Lee II homebrew. Now we've got a game that has actually been a dream of mine for a long time. I have posted in these forums before that one day I would have like to have learned how to program for the C64 and then make an update to Ghosts'n Goblins to finish the levels that were missing from the original.

But looks like somebody beat me to it. Behold, Ghosts'n Goblins Arcade:

This isn't just a romhack, but looks like it's been reprogrammed from scratch. And there are some nice little touches. Even though I thought the original Arthur sprite had charm, the new one has lots of extra detail like the visor bouncing up and down as he runs.

I was worried about losing the original C64 music, but they've kept it as an intro to the first level. I still have a lot of playing to do on this one, so I haven't fully explored it yet, but it looks fantastic.

Hat tip to AtariAge member Joe Musashi for posting this in a status update.

I ended up taking more than 10 minutes on it, and I love it compared to the original port. This will definitely get more playtime so I can see all the levels.

Originally this was already one of the best ports for the C-64, but now I wish it would have been this version back in the eighties!

Nostalgia did it again
