Mind Master

Stroh's Ice Cream Parlor, 1982

Recommended Posts

...it's forever etched into my conscious and subconsious minds...

As you enter the store, a half dozen or so arcade machines beckon from the back. Past the candy counter with the frozen coke machine, past the ice cream counter, along the side wall toward the back, there it is...

Defender. King of all arcade games.

To Defender's immediate right stands Tron. To the right of Tron, in the corner, is Berzerk. The joystick on Berzerk is malfunctioning a bit. That means usually no waiting, and if you know how to handle the broken stick, it doesn't affect your game.

Facing Berzerk, there's the smallest of the arcade cabinets - Pac Man. What's Pac Man? Might have to try it some day...

Back to back with Pac Man is Phoenix, making a bunch of little bird noises.

In later months, Defender is replaced my Stargate, which is then replaced by Joust. Phoenix is replaced by Donkey Kong.

And prior to Tron, way back in the dawn of time, a Gorf machine stood between Defender and Berzerk.

Thanks for reading...
