Htbaa #1 Posted April 7, 2003 Ok, as some might already know. I have one Jaguar that always gave me the red screen. Some weeks ago I opend the Jaguar and tried to replace the led (with no succes, I was just testing). So now, some weeks later I tried to power it up once more. Works but instead of the red screen it gives me a black screen. I also don't hear any sound. What could have gone wrong? Is it that I probaly touched something with my hands? HELP ME! Sounds like it... Even with no LED attached the Jag will still power up as normal (I know, I've done it ) Before you throw it away (or donate it to me) you should check you haven't left any tiny 'solderballs' on the inside of the case, or desoldered anywhere you shouldn't have. Could be that; or you could have forgotten to put the cardboard piece back inside the shell, something like that. Open it up again, check everything is *exactly* as it was before. If not, you're probably down a Jag... Stone
Htbaa #3 Posted April 7, 2003 I forgot to mention that one of the screwdrivers I used was magnetic. Maybe I emptyed the bootrom? Ok, as some might already know. And I just had it open (before I read this) and took a quik look and all looks fine. I think the funeral will be Friday, 11/04/2003... Anyone wants to come and show his respects? Take a longer look Static *can* damage chips, but then it seems very rare (I only know personally one person who's done it, mind you it was a 512MB stick of DDR RAM, so an expensive mistake ). Then again, it'll always seem rare until it happens to you... Check again, if not you can probably raise $10 for it on eBay, from people like me who've made a mess of their case shells if nothing else Stone
Htbaa #5 Posted April 8, 2003 What makes you think I want to sell it?
Stone #6 Posted April 8, 2003 What makes you think I want to sell it? Well, if it's dead, that's the only way to get a return on your investment...no? Stone

I got the best Jag I own for 7 bucks off a website. They had a bunch in stock. That was over 2 years ago though and I can't remember the site.

LinkoVitch #9 Posted April 8, 2003 I have fried a Speak and Spell with static.. took it apart.. had a look, put it together and it was now a gibberish machine But so far I have never fried PC hardware or even server hardware with static... nor anything I have attacked with soldering iron! Perhaps you have the LED in backwards? and it's causing some form of mad drain? [email protected] you can wipe out your boot rom with a screwdriver.. it just involves a stabbing action and a fair bit of force
Htbaa #10 Posted April 8, 2003 Perhaps you have the LED in backwards? and it's causing some form of mad drain? No, I couldn't get it loose
Stone #11 Posted April 8, 2003 I have fried a Speak and Spell with static.. took it apart.. had a look, put it together and it was now a gibberish machine Lol, I've always wanted to hack up one of those Would be fun to attach a PIC and see if you could make it say anything... No, I couldn't get it loose They're in *very* tight. Even with all the solder removed they're a pain to extract. Try harder next time Stone
LinkoVitch #12 Posted April 8, 2003 No, I couldn't get it loose They're in *very* tight. Even with all the solder removed they're a pain to extract. Try harder next time Stone It was a pain to remove my Jag's boot ROM when I was BJLing it. One thing I did discover that was useful was after removing all the solder, using a pair of needle nosed plyers grip the protuding end of the pins, and gently waggle them. This broke them away from the small pieces of solder holding the pins in the sockets and allowed me to remove the chip.
Htbaa #13 Posted April 8, 2003 OK, Stone . I will mod my Jaguar after a month or so. But I will use a socket and a switch.
LinkoVitch #14 Posted April 8, 2003 OK, Stone . I will mod my Jaguar after a month or so. But I will use a socket and a switch. why switch? I just stuck in a nice socket, and just boot BJL every time.. you can still play your normal carts with a BJL ROM installed, just press B to start the cartup. So no need for all this tricky wiring malarky (I hate solering wires, I always burn my fingers )
Stone #15 Posted April 8, 2003 why switch? I just stuck in a nice socket, and just boot BJL every time.. you can still play your normal carts with a BJL ROM installed, just press B to start the cart up. Precisely. That's what my Jag used to be until I upgraded it to 4-BIOS Although I have been asked to do a triple-stack BJL...might have to do away with the sockets for that one Stone
