Anyone ever tried making a HAPP/arcade trackball work with CV?

I wondered if this could be made to work with the CV, just by changing the connector plug or do you need the PCB from inside a CV rollerball controller to make it work. I was never really happy with the feel or smaller size of the trakball in the Coleco one. The Atari CX-22 was better as well.
