Atari Age Store....decisions decisions

Recommended Posts

Guys and gals lend me your learned shopping expertise

I have bought quite a few games from the store over the past few years and loved them all, we have great talent making games for us.

I keep punishing myself and continually browsing both the 7800 and 2600 categories, funds are a little tight just now but im gonna treat myself.

Do me the favour of telling me your very best recommendations from the store, there are lots of good games but what are the really great games.

As a huge shooter fan im leaning heavily toward 'LEAD' can you guys recommend it???

Thanks for your input in advance

Lead is really great. I don't know what you have, but I've had a lot of fun with Juno First and Blinky Goes Up, too. For the 7800, Scramble is my first choice.

I've purchased quite a few HBs over the years, but the following get the most amount of play:

  • 2600: Toy Shop Trouble, Juno First, Lady Bug, Seawolf, Oystron,Thrust+ Platinum and Strat-O-gems Deluxe
  • 7800: Astro Blaster, Pac-Man Collection, Frenzy, Asteroids Deluxe

LEAD is a great 2600 vertical shooter. Here's a video of the game in action if you haven't already seen this:

7800 "Frenzy" is "stoopid" fun! It is a strategic shooter with plenty to discover as you advance through the levels.

Another recommendation is "Crazy Brix". I am grateful it was not available in the 80's. I would still be living in my mom's basement, playing away!

Finally, "Toyshop Trouble" - avoid at all costs if you don't want to put your marriage in peril. I played this game every free second, for weeks, until I beat it. My grass grew about a foot.

Good luck!

Beat it ? How far did you get ... to Christmas ?

I made it to Christmas and then some. I don't want to spoil the fun of discovering what happens in "Toyshop Trouble". All I can say is, the game is deeper than I ever expected.

If I had more cash right now, SPACE ROCKS, FRENZY and PAC-MAN 4K would be at the top of my list.

My dream is to own all the homebrews that are available CIB.

Unfortunately, I'm not wealthy enough to do that right now, thanks to Al's decision to carry a whole lot more games CIB. :)

What about upcoming games? Star Castle and the new Pac-Man are both good stuff, though I'm not sure if the latter is going to be in the store.

I second that!! Lead looks amazing!! Does anyone here have any word on when Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest for the 7800 will be finished? That is one on my wishlist and it looks really fun.

Chetiry would be my recommendation, spot on Tetris clone with multiple game modes and three choices of music (persistent background music in a 2600 game still amazes me every time I play it) plus the songs have a spooky old carrousel vibe to them which is just awesome.

Space Rocks, with all the menu variations, is spectacular.

LEAD also "talks" with AtariVox+ and speaker in Joystick 2.

I can't stop playing 7800 Astro Blaster even though I can barely get to Level 4. It is fun, but hard, becasuse you have to balance precision shooting with quick screen level clearing and fuel power-ups to keep playing.
