Recommended Posts

I have completely map coolcv on my mac and it works great now!

Too, I have plug an Atari Jaguar controller and make a configuration to use it with CoolCV under the software called "Joystick Mapper" (not free). It is fantastic!

Many thanks for coolcv nanochess, it is a real gem in emulation on mac os.

If someone interested in the key mapping (for French keyboard), no problem to post it here.

The PI is on the way to Nanochess. Please contribute financially to him just for the emulator...or just to contribute. I would believe all support is appreciated.

Thanks! I'll put a message here when received :) probably along the latest build of CoolCV for Raspberry ;)

If you want integred coolcv to retropie you need first copy your coolcv at cd /opt/retropie/emulators/coolcv and add this lines at nano /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg:

<system>
<name>colecovision</name>
<fullname>ColecoVision</fullname>
<path>~/RetroPie/roms/colecovision</path>
<extension>.rom .ROM .col .COL</extension>
<command>/opt/retropie/emulators/coolcv/coolcv_pi %ROM% </command>
<platform>colecovision</platform>
<theme>colecovision</theme>
</system>

And don't forget this line finish with:</systemList>

This way work great for coolcv on retropie

keyboard works

joystick works.

Good pleasure!

Wow! Nice work!

What would be cool is the ability to record video, set the resolution, and screenshots.

Did you say video recording? ;)

Check first post, all platforms updated :)

New features:

  • Fast startup of Colecovision BIOS.
  • Fn-F5 enables/disables roller controller.
  • Fn-F6 starts/stops video recording (AVI format with ZMBV codec)
  • Support for Shift+Enter to exit in Raspberry PI (useful for Retropie)

Awesome, where does it save the video file in Windows? It's not in... "your Movies folder My Documents folder in Windows, or home directory in others"

I'm running Windows 7.

EDIT: It's in the "/{user dir}/My Documents/video00x.avi

Anyone else having issues with USB controllers in the Windows version?

I get no up or down movement in a game like Donkey Kong...but I can run left and right.

In Frenzy....no up and down and if I run left, it goes left and up and if I go right, it goes right and down.

USB controller works fine in all other emulators on my computer.

Please check with F7 key if the emulator is receiving codes when you use your USB controller.

BTW, the code for handling controllers hasn't changed, have you tested with previous versions of emulator?

It only appears to be receiving codes from the fire buttons, not the directional pad.

And yes, I had issues with the controller on the last release too.

Any ideas?

Every single button is mapeable :)

How is the Fast startup of Colecovision BIOS enabled?

I now realized that the mapping file is created when the emulator is first run. I should have read the documentation better. On the Raspberry with Retropie, the coolcv_mapping.txt is created in the /home/pi folder.

The exit, pause, and reset work from the keyboard. Only reset is working from the joystick. Below is my setting for the 3 functions. Is anyone else noticing this issue?

key_exit key1073741939 joy0_5

key_pause key1073741884 joy0_4

key_reset key8 joy0_3

It cannot be disabled, it reduces the 13 typical seconds to 5 or so

Is there a way to completely bypass the startup screen?

I updated my posting. Please take a look at the issue I noted with the joystick and reset/pause.

I have noticed that I get the message below when exiting the Raspberry version of the emulator:

ALSA lib pcm.c.7339:(snd_pcm_recover) underrun occurred

The game seems to be playing fine and I do have audio. I have to play longer to see if I notice a problem.

Thanks for the emulator!

p.s. (updated) I just noticed that the audio plays well when the game first start then sound choppy. I have my Raspberry set to 800mhz and the audio did sound good when the game first started.

Just checked the source code and it's my mistake, I'll correct it as soon as possible. Thanks for checking! I don't have joysticks.
