doctorclu
Hey, my favorite Atari computer! Got three. My stock BBSing machine... My Incogneto parts/test machine that worked so well I didn't need to install the second Incogneto... Thought it funny that the part of the sticker remaining was the serial number. And then the pretty 800... Thanks for this thread. Was looking to hook my Atari 800 up again. Got a great game of Archon and Star Raiders II in. 2

Nope, no imprint on the underside of the case at all, not on the outside anyway. Is it unusual not to have an imprint on the bottom? I'll look for something on the inside when I take it apart for Incognito and other upgrades soon. Edited January 15, 2020 by Gunstar

StickJock
Not sure how helpful this is, but here is an 800 that I just found. I didn't see the stamped/melted numbers on the case. Where should I look for them?

As you have the 800 upside-down and are looking at the label right side up, the stamp will be near the top center and well above the label. I think many don't have the stamp. The serial# 470139 indicates 1983 production by comparing to other 800's with numbers in the same range. Given the late production date it is unlikely to have the date stamped into the case. The 2-28 would indicate Feb 28th of that year, which would be week 9 of 1983.
whaledriver
I came across another 800 with an 810 disk drive and bought both for $40. Good deals are still out there. Here is the serial. Edited February 14, 2020 by whaledriver
ApolloBoy
I'm surprised I haven't contributed mine yet... Printed label: 419055 #073 (which means this machine is now 37 years old as of today!) Handwritten label: AW 467515 2/17 As is typical for 1983 800s, the ROM and RAM modules are bare PCBs with a plastic spacer and the expansion panel is screwed shut. ClausB
Looks like another 1979 unit. Please verify with a photo of the numbers imprinted on the rear underside, like in post #187 above.
ebaybrad
Where? It doesn't have 2 labels like the other units listed here. Also looks like a mod to the back for the monitor connection.

jacobus
16K, CTIA, tin contacts, OS A. Embossed numbers are 1 80 2378, printed label is 180 1278 - not sure why the embossed and printer numbers come close but don't match. +Stephen
Nice! I really should get a 16kB CTIA 400 with original keyboard working at some point.
_The Doctor__
I don't know, as far as the 400 and 800 are concerned It's my thought the CTIA was just a placeholder until GTIAs would be widely available for use. I'm sure I have a CTIA laying about... it's a nice chip for historical comparison but it's not logged any major hours in actual use... might have been used in a pinch to test a machine out until a GTIA made it to the desk. Atari did allow them to go out the door in machines and provided an upgrade kit for them... get it out the door and all that...
