Harvesting cartridge slots/connectors to mod FB2 Systems

Recommended Posts

OK, I have a stash of dead 2600's, mostly light sixers. I also have a stash of FB2 systems that I picked up cheap.

Can someone point me to a good link of how to remove the cartridge apparatus from the 2600?

Is any particular model a better choice for these parts?

The article that I read used the slot and connector from a 7800, is that better?

Please don't sacrifice 7800's, even "broken" ones. There are vastly fewer of them, to begin with, and the cartridge connector is not identical to the 2600, having several additional pins not present in the 2600.

I heard you can get replacement slots here ... http://www.syzygycompany.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=52 pretty cheap (that may not be the whole thing you need though :| )

I haven't actually tried to remove a slot from the board yet but heard it involves de-soldering all the pins first before removing shroud that's also held by 2 screws

the front loading mod looks handsome http://atariage.com/forums/topic/202237-front-loading-atari-flashback-ii-cartridge-mod/

also the CD drive mod looks pretty cool as well http://atariage.com/forums/topic/212299-atari2600-cartridge-reader-play-your-real-cartridges-on-an-emulator/

That was exactly what I thought, I only have 1 7800 and it works fine. I won't be sacrificing it at the mod alter any time soon!
