Interest check: two wonky TI Color Monitors

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to downsize and get rid of anything I'm not actually using in my war room, and I'm giving up on the dream of a 100% stock 99/4A system for the moment. I have two TI Color Monitors -- they look the same to me, though one's a 1982 and one's a 1983 model.

One doesn't come on at all - the red indicator light comes on, but there's no audio or video.

The second works okay, but not great - the colors blur and the images are fuzzy enough to make playing a game like MunchMan almost impossible. The audio is also touchy, with crackling and dropouts when you adjust the volume knob.

I can't stand to just pitch old TI stuff, but are these fixable (or worth fixing)? I'm not a hardware guy at all -- I'm not the man to make any repairs. I just don't know if I own two old paperweights, or if it's worth looking into fixing them, or swapping them out to someone for parts or repair.

Certainly they are fixable. The one that sort of works probably needs re-capping and that will fix it. The other one will also need re-capping and plus whatever the fault is. There's tons of videos on YouTube showing restoration of old TVs and the like.

Knowing they're fixable, and that I probably never will, is anyone interested in trading these for something? I'd rather they get fixed and put to good use. I'm in Ohio and travel for work, so if you're in the midwestern USA I may be able to drop them off at some point this fall - or I would be ok with shipping them if we can work something out. Shoot me a message if you're interested, let me know what you have. I'm really interested in cassette and disk software, and I collect stuff for other machines as well.
