Super Action Controller repair info?

So there appear to be a ton of Super Action Controllers out there with broken stick directional response. For example, the one I have only works in the left direction when I press the joystick with a lot of force.

 

Has anyone successfully repaired this problem?

 

If so, do you have any tips on how to go about repairing a Super Action controller?

I repaired a broken one simply by removing the plastic white "octopus" piece that is wedged between the control stick and the directional sensors. Nearly all of the broken controllers have those pieces broken inside and they really aren't necessary.
