Size of 600/800XL VIAs? (Plated through hole)

Recommended Posts

I've got a couple of old needs-repair XL mobos sitting in my parts bin. At least one of them needs some vias replaced. Does anyone know what the size specification is? I can easily measure the thickness, but the diameter is not so easy. I've never done this before, but looking at the videos I found, doesn't look too difficult.

Thanks,

Larry

Really?? You've determined a via has gone bad? You're talking about replacing the metal plating in the hole? Um... well... if that's the case then use a small PCB drill bit if you need to clear any solder mask out of the via, then scrape an exposed spot on the pad on both sides and pass a strand of wire through and solder to both sides. Where did you see a video on replacing vias?

Yes, that is one I watched. If I don't find the size info, I can carefully drill one completely out and use a drill bit to estimate the actual size. Believe me, in my pre-Hako days, I zapped several of these desoldering. Hako is a game changer!

Ah, you're fixing damaged plate-through holes in pads. That makes more sense. I was wondering how often you'd seen a failure of some random routing via. :dunce:
