Mountain King
Just jump in. You'll learn either way. Bbasic while it is limited, it's not that bad. Just have fun with it.
+Gemintronic
I really don't understand why you would want bB games on the vcs/2600. The entire appeal to me is trying to squeeze the most you can out of the meager limitations of the 2600. Using BASIC is cheating, and you might as well program for a computer. I can't figure out if this is dry humor or not. I need more coffee.

pitfall_jerry
I have just set it up on my new Windows 10 (64 bit) install and it runs great.
+Gemintronic
I just bought a Win 10 Nextbook and got the weird thing where VisualbB refuses to retain its settings (either as Administrator or normal user). Ah well.
+atari2600land
I just tried to put Visual bB on my new computer (there were a few projects I would have liked to finish), but I keep getting this stupid error message:
+Random Terrain
I just tried to put Visual bB on my new computer (there were a few projects I would have liked to finish), but I keep getting this stupid error message: Did you use this version of VbB: atariage.com/forums/topic/123849-visual-bb-10-a-new-ide-for-batari-basic/?p=3537039
+atari2600land
Yes, that was one of the ones I tried. I deleted everything in disgust. Should I try again? Or would it just give me the same message again?

freshbrood
March 2021, Win10 64bit, latest windows update- currently only bbasic 32bit works for me. (64bit version would close immediately) No settings/paths are saved, but it edits compiles and saves. Just an fyi.

There are only weird techie voodoo solutions left and even those are trial and error. Like I said in a previous thread we might have to break down and learn how to set up a virtual Windows 7 machine via Virtualbox. it's free. https://www.virtualbox.org/ It also has a seamless mode that makes VisualbB look like any normal application even though it's running on a VisualbB friendly virtual machine running Win 7. Either that or use Visual Studio Code with Atari Dev Studio. Keep the half working older copy of VisualbB open for the extra tools Atari Dev Studio doesn't yet have. The last, LAST option is to track down the developer of VisualbB and beg him to re-compile VisualbB for modern Windows and .NET. I think he's long gone, though. KevKelley
Just checked and I am using Windows 7 on an old laptop. I thought when I started on my PC years ago on Windows 10 it worked but I do not remember

I think I'm going to do a port (I know) in Bbasic (I know I know) because I am such a noob, and I want to accelerate the process of learning. Output the best playable >8k game that way, then work on making the same game in assembly. It seems like the easiest way to learn. I wish there were more tutorials. Assembly still seems a bit steep to me right now. I tried to do my part with https://alienbill.com/2600/bbkickstart/ and https://alienbill.com/2600/101/ --I should probably update the second one so it talks about Atari Dev Studio...
freshbrood
I can live with it. It's a little annoying doing the settings each time but that only takes 30 seconds and I use it for hours at a time anyway. I love batari basic and hope we never let it die. freshbrood
So just to confirm, I re downloaded every version of bBasic from every page I could find, and the same with VbB. Re installed everything and it all seems to work and save settings on Win10_64 using the 64bit version(s). Apparently some folders/files were separate with different downloads. There are certainly a lot of different pages and sources for it. Maybe some updating/consolidation would help? I'm happy to volunteer. I'm just not sure how. Hey @kisrael - would you be ok if I put some links in Atari Dev Studio off to your editors? I'm thinking about adding a new tools feature which will link off to stuff. I may be able to open them in a tab otherwise will open the browser - need to check.

While some of my editors are works in progress, I usually work hard to fight link rot, with at least a redirect as needed.

I will go to the RT page only for now, but other people trying to get into bBasic using a Google search will be led to many frustrating dead ends. I guess I could pay evil Google a bunch of money to make sure the bB page is always the first result.
