snakeboy
Your Donkey Kong levels are pretty good. My only (constructive) feedback is that I think the ass end of pipes should always be covered by something. Makes it look more legit. I'd recommend shortening those pipes by one block then moving them down and putting blocks or ground to cover the ass ends. That said, truly inspired level designs man! Thanks for the feedback! I really do appreciate it. And I'm not completely thrilled with the pipe situation either. But in the end it was a concession I felt I had to make because of the vertical design of the stage. If you look closely, the pipes at the end of each tier - the ones closest to the "ladders" you climb to get to the next tier - are already as short as they can get. If I moved those down a notch, then they would be closer to the ground than the other pipes, Sure. I could move the other pipes down an additional notch also, but the closer they are to the ground, the more difficult the level plays, and I thought the level on a whole would be a little too hard (I think I made the right decision since the last I looked the clear rate was under 4%). I suppose I could have had all the pipes at different heights off the ground - and I'm thinking now that maybe this is what I should have done. But I just like the idea of having all of them the same distance from the ground. Actually, though, if you have a sharp eye, you will notice the pipes at the top of the screen are a notch lower than the rest - since I ran out of room - but I rationalized this by thinking that the top tier should be harder because it is close to the end of the level. Did any of that make sense? Yeah, it didn't to me either. Anyways, glad you enjoyed playing them. Part 3 is close to being finished. I look forward to trying your Blaster Master level and will try to give some feedback.
dashv
I gotcha. It was more of a nit pick than a criticism. I thought you captured the Donkey Kong theme very well while making it your own at the same time.
dashv
Really wasn't happy with how blah my Blaster Master level was. So I took a page from snakeboy's playbook and kept it faithful while making it my own. I'm much happier with the new version. 9381-0000-0083-20B8
IrishNerdLife
D70E-0000-007D-4ED4 - Pirate Ship Sneak Attack! 1B29-0000-0080-66C2 - Donut Drop, World 2! - I think this is my best level so far. My in-game name is Rudolf BTW Played a bunch of your levels last night, my in-game name is Alan, and I really enjoyed them. There was some awesome touches throughout and I think you make really attractive looking levels. I also think the challenge is generally very well balanced. One question; how did you do the pipe trick in the dinosaur level. I've tried doing something like that before, but I couldn't get the pipes organized correctly. I thought you could "stack" pipes to make it appear like the pipe exit is changing, but that didn't work. Any tips on where I went wrong? I've also tried Snakeboy's Donkey Kong levels, but I'm afraid they were too tough for me!
snakeboy
I gotcha. It was more of a nit pick than a criticism. Yeah, I know it isn't major, but the OCD-perfectionist part of me can be hard to please at times
snakeboy
I've also tried Snakeboy's Donkey Kong levels, but I'm afraid they were too tough for me! I was trying to create something on the difficult side but didn't feel impossible, something where you might die several times but want to keep trying - kind of like the original Donkey Kong. Anybody else here try them and think they are too hard? One tip that I would give is that you need to learn when to be patient and when to be aggressive. Also, I think that the fairly short timer might make some players feel rushed, but there is actually plenty of time to clear the levels since they are pretty short. I hope that helps if you ever decide to give them another try. Also, I'm planning on trying your levels - as well as everyone else's - just haven't had the time yet:)
heberts811
I made a revision to the Chase because players only completed it 2% of the time and I added another course: The Chase!!!! v2.0 - D544-0000-0084-923D Goomba's Castle - D87A-0000-0080-73E6 As always, comments (or stars if you like ) on any of my courses are appreciated. I thought you could "stack" pipes to make it appear like the pipe exit is changing, but that didn't work. Any tips on where I went wrong? Thanks, I appreciate it. I can't think of a great way to explain it but both overword pipes I have are actually 2 stacked directly on top of each other. Make sure you don't stack your pipes until after you send your Mario through. I literally stumbled across it by accident and then built my level around it. Good Luck, I'm interested in seeing what other people can do with the idea. So I made pipe 1o, it leads to 2u. I made 3u it leads to 4o. I made 5o it leads to 6u. I stack 4o on top of 5o. I create 7u it leads to 8o. I stack 1o on 8o. Easy as that lol. u is underworld, o is overworld. 9D76-0000-0085-D800 - Zelda IV, I haven't had anyone playtest this so hopefully it works as intended. snakeboy
Okay, I ended up deleting "It's On Like Donkey Kong: Part 1" after it's clear rate dropped to about 2.5%, made some tweaks, and uploaded the new version: CD38-0000-0088-E710 I also finished part 3: 7C77-0000-0089-0460 Any feedback would be appreciated! I don't pay too much attention to clear rate. Without being able to see play through it's pretty useless. A lot of my levels have low completion rates but I know they are not hard by any means. My only level that has a clear rate over 90% is one where I put the flag pole right next to the start point.
Amstari
I want to play through as many levels from this thread as I can tonight. So I've made a list of all the levels in the thread and there is a lot! I'd say I'm average at best when it's comes to Mario skills; really struggle on the expert setting difficulty levels. Thanks, I appreciate it. I can't think of a great way to explain it but both overword pipes I have are actually 2 stacked directly on top of each other. That's actually very similar to what I had tried. I guess I must have had the order/stacking wrong. I'm sure I'll come back to it as some point. I really liked the Zelda IV level. It reminded me of the light world/dark world mechanic you often find in Zelda games. I've uploaded a new level, which I think is one of my better ones. It was definitely one of the most interesting to create. Wario Bros Mountain Adventure 2 5D05-0000-00A8-4E81 i wasn't going to change this one but under 4% completion rate and I noticed that there was plenty of room before and after to add another mountain so I made this update. snakeboy
For the (not so) many of you who have been anxiously awaiting, here it is: all four levels of "It's On Like Donkey Kong"! If you thought the original Donkey Kong arcade game was okay but found all the fun you were having to be a bit too distracting, then these levels are for you! Part 1: CD38-0000-0088-E710 Part 2: 4050-0000-007B-1B57 Part 3: 7C77-0000-0089-0460 Part 4: 9455-0000-00AC-38D5
BoredNow
Check out this cool new site that helps people earn more stars and medals in Super Mario Maker: http://supermariomatchmaker.esy.es/ People can sign up and be matched with another person. They play and star that person's levels, and that person plays and stars their levels. Once they've played all that person's levels they can get matched with a new person. I think this is better than trying to share your level codes on a messageboard where they tend to get lost or ignored.

I haven't beaten the first one yet but starred it and downloaded all four for later playback. You've inspired me to attempt to recreate the DK Barrel Stage. Wish me luck...Well, thank you. Playing all four back-to-back is pretty challenging; hope you enjoy it If you re-create the barrel stage, definitely share it. I've played several versions of that stage, and it's always fascinating to see what each person comes up with. They all try to do the same thing, but everyone seems to do it in very different ways. Oh...and good luck!
Andromeda Stardust
Well, thank you. I've played several versions of that stage, and it's always fascinating to see what each person comes up with. They all try to do the same thing, but everyone seems to do it in very different ways. Oh...and good luck! That, and I'm tossing the idea of doing a Pacman stage with underwater. I've got a Pacman Amiibo for character support and could fill the Pac level with coins, and starmans for the power pellets. Not sure if I wanna do Bloopers or Boos for the monsters. Spike tops would make an interesting maze mechanic as well. Unfortunately there's no way to end the level when all coins are collected so probably exit the exit through the right warp to access the flagpole. Honor system if you collect all the coins or not. For the Donkey Kong stage, I'll use vines to climb up and a beetle shell generator for the barrels. I don't think there's a way to make the beetle shells bounce off the edge or go down the vine ladders so they'll probably do the same way each time. Maybe do doors for multiple stages. Conveyors are easy enough; not sure how I'll do the spring boards or rivets yet. Prolly do donut blocks for the rivets. Again honor system if you clear them all or not. I need to get back into the creator now that I've unlocked all the stage builder packs.
