Oh man very sorry to hear that. Please don't take this the wrong way but programming is probably not your best choice of time spent. As with any type of rebuilding mentally or physically slow progressive steps would be best. Simple puzzles and mazes are what you likely should be doing.

What would you suggest he do to remember your suggestion later?

I've been doing this for the past five and a half years. I have a really good support system with my family and specialist. Don't be sorry. I'm at a place now that they never thought I could be.

I write down a LOT of things. I have a daily schedule that I use for daily tasks, chores, development time, free time. Notes section I use to put things like this conversation in. ;)

I know. This is like the 5th time you told me this. icon_razz.gif Anyway, I can kind of relate. I do things like sending texts to myself, have my wife witness me putting something down so I don't lose it, ask her my age, stick to a daily routine to not forget basic steps like shaving, etc.

Dangit lol. See, I don't remember ever bringing it up before lol. Obviously it's not full-proof lol. We seem to do some of the same things. Nice!

Dude, seriously. Is this the dumpster therad of this forum now? Kevin, would you make a new thread for actual announcements and actual information about your products? I'm seriously tired of comming here after seeing there are new posts on the thread just to see people talking about the most random crap ever. What the hell is actually going on here. Maybe I'm on the wrong, I don't know, But I am tired of comming here and having to plow through crap I have ZERO interest in.

That's fantastic news. I'm not salty that it won't work with other devices from other vendors, but I am curious from an engineering and/or legal perspective as to why it's proprietary. $30 or $40 gets a decent HDMI to RGBHV, though I don't think those devices work with the (obscure) 240p over HDMI.

Maybe I took it wrong and thought it meant the signal is proprietary, not the dac.

"It takes proprietary digital signals from Super Nt and converts them to high quality analog signals. Outputs to same DSUB15 jack on Nt mini."

Nice! Now I know I can re-use all the cables I bought for my NT Mini! This officially alleviates the only compromise of the Super NT design. It'd be neat if the device had an HDMI passthrough so we could simultaneously have the Super NT plugged into a CRT and HDTV and switch between them.

Here's all the tweets for convenience sake:

"For all analog AV lovers: we've been working on something you'll like. 100% work in progress at this time, but coming together right so far.

Designed for Super Nt and future Analogue systems. A digital to analog converter that plugs into the HDMI port.

It takes proprietary digital signals from Super Nt and converts them to high quality analog signals.

Outputs to same DSUB15 jack on Nt mini.Outputs: RGB, Component, S-video, Composite, analog audio...and probably more. Same quality as Nt mini. Zero lag. Zero signal degradation.

Price will be reasonable. "

When asked about price, they confirmed it would absolutely be under $100

https://twitter.com/analogue_co/status/954390688635875328

When asked if Kevtris is designing it, they confirmed that yes he is:

https://twitter.com/analogue_co/status/954367614750359552

When asked if the device will convert 480p to 240p they replied:

Anyway this is very exciting news, and I think it's a great business decision. It makes sense not to design a whole separate SKU for the minority of people who still want CRT compatibility, and like they said, this will be compatible with future Analogue systems. I wonder what they meant when they said "RGB, Component, S-Video, Composite, Analog Audio and probably more". What could the "probably more" be? A dedicated optical digital audio out? HDMI passthrough?

I would like a dedicated optical or coaxial output (without resampling), but based on the Nt Mini, I would not expect HDMI passthrough. In other words, it should be able to do analog or digital both not both at the same time.

The answer to the question "Will this convert 480p to 240p?" is strange. I believe it would pass some form of digital signal to the analog converter. However, the converter must output 240p, otherwise the RGB, S-Video and Composite outputs would be useless (or horrific if it was being converted to 480i). It is unclear from the posts whether the Super Nt will be outputting a "raw" digital signal or some form of HDMI signal and converting it. I do not expect the box to do 480p over Component, the Nt Mini does not and there is somewhat of a limited appeal for that feature.

You could just, you know, follow Analogue on twitter? That seems like it would be a better option for you if all you want is cut and dry press releases about upcoming products. While I agree things have gotten wildly off-topic in some instances, this thread has largely become an unofficial Q&A/tech support thread for people that own an NT Mini and are testing different jailbreak cores/ROMs. What do you expect to happen in the time period between Kevtris' last NT Mini jailbreak firmware release and the release of the Super NT? Kevtris is obviously limited in what he can share on this thread because he works for Analogue. This is an enthusiast thread on an enthusiast forum regarding a relatively new and game-changing application of FPGAs wrt high fidelity retro gaming and historical preservation. People are excited and they speculate, troubleshoot and hang out. I'm sorry you have to do the backbreaking labor of clicking through the thread to get official announcements regarding Kevtris' work, which you should know probably won't happen much anymore due to the change of circumstances regarding the original purpose of the thread. I know it started as "community member" Kevtris polling for interest in a possible mutli-console FPGA project, but it's pretty obvious that it's morphed into a more iterative series of consumer products that will be released by Analogue. This is no longer a little homebrew hobby project, it's a business. So while it may be cool for Kevin to pop into the thread every once in awhile to give an update or answer a question, or (hopefully) announce a Super NT jailbreak, this is what the thread is now, an semi-official/unofficial place to discuss, troubleshoot, test and share. So like I said before, just follow Analogue on twitter or sign up for their email newsletter, as there probably won't be too many exclusive bombshells of new information dropped in this thread anymore other than (hopefully) a Super NT jailbreak, which you should come back to the thread to check for once people actually have their Super NT units in their hands.

By HDMI passthrough I meant in the sense of replicating the NT Mini's ability to be physically plugged into an HDTV and a CRT at the same time, I know it can't output both at the same time, but you can toggle between the two with a controller shortcut.

And yeah I'm assuming there will just be a "240p over HDMI" mode that just passes the raw digital signal out over HDMI and skips any of the scaling.

How do you toggle between the two?

With the announcement of the DAC and the "out of stock" notification for the Nt Mini, I think the likelihood that Analogue releases a lower cost hdmi only nes project just increased.

I was thinking about this too. It would be a smart move imo. But won't there be an issue with the NES core and the external DAC? Doesn't the NT Mini do something specific with the composite output on the NES core? I'm pretty sure Kevtris said in most of the cores, the video starts in digital RGB and is converted to the other analog formats from there, but that the NES core generates NTSC video for composite directly, in the exact same way an original NES does. I'm not sure if this would cause any issues or if they would just convert from RGB with the external DAC.

That's a good point... not sure. Perhaps the Nt Mini would remain the only truly accurate FPGA solution for composite output.

How about I could just come to this thread to read from Kevtris, about progress on his work, and not have to read 10 pages of random crap about televisions and programming languages? Is that really too much to ask for? Where did I say I only want official announcements from Analogue? And why are you saying what Kevtris is going to post aboput in this thread or not? Do you actually know that? Please don't answer to this questions. I don't want to discuss any of this. I just want to stop needing to read dozens of posts unrelated to this thread to find the information I am interested in.

I think they didn't call the signal "proprietary" if it just convert 480p to 240p. I'm hoping for a RAW 240p signal using the HDMI just as a connector, without any compromisses to 60Hz and others HDMI specs. I don't know if Snes have speed differences as NES (in Hz) but if they plan to make it universal to newer products the RAW signal seem the way to go.

Or you could stop complaining about people wanting to talk about things you aren't interested in, since you don't own the internet?
