McKong
Yeah I suppose, in fact I used that tactic when playing Super Breakout. I used to try to ensure that there was as much of a gap between the timing of the two balls so that one was at the top of the screen while the other was at the bottom, that way when you cleared the screen the one at the top some times got trapped by the next wall of bricks. The even bigger bonus on Super Breakout was that if this happened you got double points for as long as you could keep both balls in play
+therealbountybob
c'mon Spy's Demise with the paddles it is possible to control and get a good score! You just keep the paddle on the byte point he's either running left or right! Wild West press fire and move the paddle to start a new round? - it waits for select key to change level between levels (not to be used here!) More from me Flop Super Ball 47,230 (Level 6) - there will be a bonus point for highest level reached (it's shown next to high score). Liking the timer thingy but not sure if you are meant to lose a man or miss out on a bonus or something. Guess it stops you hanging onto the good power-ups for too long? I played PAD straight after - had 2 sets of paddles in and it lets you pick any of them so I found a good one... but didn't beat my score. Very slick game indeed. Plattermania - reminder - top players start on level 6 - boy was that a rude awakening! After picking up the broken pieces of pottery managed 74,750 (scores for this game will be adjusted re as total score bonus!) Live Wire 2 - very nice, did they add more features or new layouts or both? will have to check - 12,350 Chicken - Fandal thinks it runs ok but I can't get it to work on my PAL 130XE (Game Over after 1 egg drops on floor) anyone? ballyalley
Wild West press fire and move the paddle to start a new round? - it waits for select key to change level between levels (not to be used here!) I pressed the fire button and all sorts of other buttons on the keyboard to avoid the about-30-second wait; nothing worked to quickly proceed to the next level for me. I just had to be content with this off pause (a break from the action?) between levels. I'll probably skip this game because of this "feature." Please, someone (anyone!), tell me that there is some way to avoid this long wait. Flop Super Ball [...] Liking the timer thingy I'm going to have to skip "Flop Super Ball." The repeated background patterns are affecting me physically. No kidding. Patterns like those used as the background in this game can cause someone with epilepsy (i.e. me) to feel quite strange and even cause an aura (sort of a pre-seizure). When my meds weren't working for me, such patterns could even cause seizures. I'll avoid this game; that's for sure! Some epileptics can't play videogames at all. Luckily for me, I don't have this problem. I don't encounter games such as this often-- otherwise, I'd be playing... board games? Thankfully, I don't have to complicate what I'd do instead, because I can play videogames. Yeah! TRBB, if possible, could I get a similar, paddle-based, replacement for this game that I can't play? If not, well then... poor, poor pitiful me. Live Wire 2 - very nice, did they add more features or new layouts or both? will have to check I've never found the original source for this updated "Live Wire" game. I can't find a trace of it, other than the publication of the original "Live Wire" (in "Analog" magazine). Maybe this was made by a fan of the game at some point? I'd be interested to know more of this sequel's history. So, if you discover what's different about the game, then I'd be quite interested to hear abou it. McKong
Ok Bob yeah I saw that chicken problem where it finishes after one egg is dropped. The weird thing is I only saw it a couple of times on altirra all the other times on altirra and the 800xl it played fine

The weird thing is I only saw it a couple of times on altirra all the other times on altirra and the 800xl it played fine CHICKEN turns out I am stupid - if you drop the first egg the game decides you are useless and ends your go! Now if anyone wants tastier chicken try this version Dump-missing-games-versions-homebrew-levels [EDIT: DISK 1 UPDATED WITH THIS VERSION] 32,440 Edited October 15, 2015 by therealbountybob

ballyalley
you can try out another paddles bnb game such as Arkanoid II Sure. I'll see how "Arkanoid II" works for me. the new disk 1 as it has an XEX version of Wild West perhaps [it will fix the delay problem]? The delay in "Wild West" is now gone... and yet it's still messed up; another problem was introduced on my NTSC machine. Now the bombs left on the screen don't get cleared away between levels when I miss a bomb. They remaining bombs stay stationary while other bombs drop around them. I'm using this on the AtariMax 8Mb flashcart. This problem does not occur under Altirra 2.5. Very strange. The HSC classic gaming Gods are conspiring against me this round. Or maybe it's just McKong. Some provisional tables on Posts 2 and 3 Oops, you posted my son's score as mine. I didn't score about 58K. That was D-Lo. My high score (so far) is 49,400. ballyalley
Now the bombs [on Wild West] left on the screen don't get cleared away between levels I tried "Wild West" on the AtariMax IDE II and the game plays as normal now (the bombs get cleared away) and there is no pause. Thanks for helping me out. I also tried "Arkanoid II." The bottom-half of the title screen is jumbled when the game first begins and the score is nearly off the screen, plus everything flickers a bit. These are all typical problems when playing PAL games on an NTSC computer. Oh, and the high score is set to something like 320,860K (I can't quite read it). The biggest trouble is that the game can't be restarted as it locks-up after a game is over. The same thing happens under emulation on when using NTSC video. If I find an interesting type-in paddle game then I'll try playing that one. Maybe I'll look for one over the next few days. Maybe I can find an neat ML one from an American magazine or book (anyone have any suggestions that they might have typed into their own computer?). If I can't find a game, then missing one game in thirteen isn't going to affect the final outcome. Besides, I play in the HSC for fun and exploring the history of the platform, not competition. Even running into an issue like this has it's own strange attraction to me. Maybe because the Atari 8-Bit has so many options to get a game working that trying them all out is a game in and of itself.
+therealbountybob
Think we are all up and running now! Atarionline.pl have a bunch of Wild Wests listed Improvements from me: PAD 134,770 (K2) really helps being able to use paddle 4 = my good one! I played on 100% but think I prefer 75%. I'm assuming collecting all the power ups is how the game is designed thought sometimes I hang on to the power ball as it's so awesome! Some nice screens but some you need to skip over if you can Aliens 159/184 Chicken 39,540 (8] DISK 1 now has the updated "Clucking version" thanks to fandal Live Wire 2: 14,000 (6) Space Eggs 1,425 forgot you got to dock for the extra turret but I wasted it in about 1 second! Nice game here you need to pick off one at a time as best you can, luckily they go back up so you can shoot them in retreat Spy's Demise 1,

+therealbountybob
after a few plays I'm still not sure if I prefer PAD or Super Ball! A few improvements, more to come on Chicken and Spy's Demise I completed the first screen, the paddles are pretty good for shimmying between the lifts. No real duffers here, shame Wild West was much easier than I remembered but all in all a good bunch of games. My scores are for paddles - there is a 5 point bonus for playing all the games on paddles or emulated mouse but not for me or McKong just to keep it interesting Main Game PAD 134,770 (K2) Tourney Games Flop Super Ball 79,160 (10) Chiseler 4,623 Castle Crisis 39,125 (+2) Wild West 10000+9 hats Space Eggs 1,425 Chicken 60,000 (12) Live Wire 2: 14,000 (6) Plattermania (started on level 6) 135,800 (1000x) Sneakers 2,044 Spy's Demise 2,521 (2) Aliens 159/184 Bonus Games: Bomber 3,950 (29) Castle Crisis - not played multiplayer Birdfood - not played multiplayer
