Okie Dokey Smokey, any ideas? (Burning EEPROMS)

Recommended Posts

Okay, I'm still waiting on the burner and adapters (probably two more weeks), but I'm now packing chips and have no idea what to burn first. Anyone have any suggestions suitable for a newbie? I gotta start somewhere right?

Possibly a backup copy of Zero Zap as well, you would be hearbroken if something happened to the first copy :)

Alex Kidd demo :P

That's a GREAT idea... but right now I've come to a SCREECHING HALT... the bloody documentation is in Chinese! AFIK I'll need to program the Atmega 1284P with the appropriate program written by Gazoo to access and find any program (with a header) that I burn to the AT49F040 and well,,,,, it's not gonna happen today apparently!

I might be wrong about this (I have yet to buy an ubergrom board), but I thought the ubergrom worked without atmel as a basic 512k board. I think if you just burn the AT49F040 and leave out the atmel the board should work (if you don't have a v2.2 console)

You're probably right as it does have the little green sticker. At this point never having done any of this before, I have no idea which slots on the MiniPRO to plug in the adapter, how do deal with headers, or even how use the programmer and since, the documentation is worthless... I cannot even attempt it tonight. :_(

... but maybe you can find more info in this thread:

Thanks, I'll check it out. I found the IC type and adapter type in the menu, but as for other settings... dunno, It's all moot anyway as I do not have a ready-to-burn file to test with anyway!

Not sure if you've seen it, but the file I posted in the development forum is a raw, ready-to-burn 512k file (alexkidd8.bin).

COOL! I'll have to try it out!!!

So far I've save that thread, found out that the software tells you where to stick it in the burner and I've turned off "check device ID".

Hopefully after I download the .BIN file I'll figure out how to open it and burn it. THANKS!

Omega, I think you need the newest firmware first

for the TL866CS: minipro_setup-6-17-2015-09.rar
(pls make absolutely sure that this is your burner, and remove any adapter & chips)

I would uninstall the 6.10-software, CCleaner, install 6.17,
and then the 1st step is to update the eprommer´s firmware with that software.
I don´t remember exact, but I think there was an entry in the menu for flashing

ah, ->MainMenu -> Tools -> Flash Firmware

My result-screen:

I have no english manual, too. Only this non?-working help-files: TL866 programmer manual.zip

and some infos I have saved for me:

and of course my printout of Gazoo´s 1284p-advices:

(I think, but I don´t know for sure if it´s the latest version): MiniPro-programmer-1284p-GAZOO.pdf

Reading/Burning was "somehow" easy, but I cannot remember correct:

Eproms should be correctly deleted with the UV-light.

In the "Select IC"-field on the upper left just choose your Eprom. This is an "intelligent" filter, try it to find out your right chip.

All informations needed are printed on or under the Eprom-Chip.

If the chip does not exists in the list, sometimes another chip-type works too

The voltage is very important to be selected correctly. I read it from each chip if available. Or just google it, worx

If you found your chip you can check it for emptiness / zeros first, there was a menu for that

Then you can burn it (or just read it - maybe better first :)

And maybe you also try with an "easier" chip-type. (Info: For the TMS2532 and 64 you´ll need an adapter.)

If you don´t get it, I can dig out my minipro

Okay... it SAY'S it programmed properly... BUT I DON'T BELIEVE IT... it was way too fast.

I'll pull the chip, put it into the Uber Cart and see what happens.....

is it confirmed that only 1 chip works in the ubercart ? no jumper needed or anything else ? I would wait....

There is a menu to read out and compare your chip against your BIN-file, you could proof that.

You also could read out any other eprom and watch it in HEX with this software here.

Normally you can see & reco some text of the menuentries on the first pages of that hex-code

I assume your eprommer works

Yeah, I set it for BLANK CHECK... even erased them both a few times. They just don't want to program. Maybe if I had a different BIN of something else to test?

SUCCESS!

Well, I had some success ONCE, but don't know why it would not repeat.

For some reason when I set it to clear buffer with 0xFF it worked after something like the 20th attempt.

When I tried it again... it would not work... anyway, look at this below!
