aftyde #1 Posted October 25, 2015 Hi All, I have two TI controllers... One has the John Guion ROM's with some traces added to the board and a single wire connected to the external bus. This allows access to four double-sided single-density (DSSD) drives and the use of "dskn" in lower case. The other is a mystery. I have de-shelled it and posted a picture. Two ROM's with wires headed out to a switch. Anyone know what this mod is supposed to do? Cheers, Arthur...

Shift838 #3 Posted October 26, 2015 Looks like I figured it out... 80 track upgrade... http://www.mainbyte.com/ti99/upgrade/upgrade.html yup looks like one of the original 80 track upgrades for the TI FDC. The newer 80 track upgrade is just a 2 chips to pop in. No jumping ore resistors..
+Ksarul #4 Posted October 27, 2015 Didn't one of those original 80-track mods also let you use 8" floppies?

+Schmitzi #6 Posted November 2, 2015 uih, not bad. I have some pics from a 8"-Shugart-drive, so I just post them... If I remember correct, this drives were running with 110/220 Volts full throttle-power
budz2355 #7 Posted January 2, 2016 Oh man that would be awesome! Does anyone have the ability to test the 8" mod? I would totally buy a drive if I could find one for $200 or less working (...and knew that I could connect it to my TI)

Do I need a nuclear generate to run this beast or will my PEB power it?
+Ksarul #9 Posted January 2, 2016 The PEB will definitely NOT power an 8" drive. . .you need to put them in an external enclosure with a power supply suited to 8" drives. They suck a LOT of power compared to a 5.25 drive.
Stuart #10 Posted January 2, 2016 Some 8" drives need 24V DC and 110V AC mains supplies ...

I have them ear-marked for reading (or trying) my old System/34 disks which contain my libraries from high school.
