Hi guys, UPDATE..

I've hooked my intellivision using RF , but the picture starts off ok but then gets worse and worse after about 10 mins playing ..not sure why :?

I've tried to find somebody in the UK to mod my console for me ,but had no luck.....So i,ve bought a soldering iron kit and decided to have a go myself.

My A/V composite kit has arrived from Turkey.......

Has anybody installed this kit ?.... or any other mod kit for the intellivision ? ......... and can give me any TIPS before i start..

Anything i should be careful with ,or look out for, etc ...

Any help i would be very grateful :waving:

I've not modded one yet. But I've done a lot of soldering in general on many different things. You should do a little practicing before hacking on your precious console if you are new to it. There are lots of on-line examples.

I used the AV mod from Turkey, its the Intv Wiki circuit. Piece of cake to install, it comes with directions in a PDF file.

Hardest part is drilling the holes for the RCA jacks and keeping it neat & clean looking.

I'am looking on YouTube for soldering tips....How long did it take you to mod Siliconet0aD85 ?.....And did the mod from Turkey give you a clear picture, and was it worth doing ? :?

That may not be an RF problem. But it doesn't hurt to try.

You *should* be able to clip the AV mod in temporarily, see if it helps things. I have these tiny alligator clip leads that work well for this sort of thing. I'm not entirely sure what's all involved in an INTV mod, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

The most difficult part of the job, but also the most forgiving, will be removing the shielding on the motherboard so you can actually get to the spots you need to solder.

I've done two of the mods from Turkey, and they went according to plan. Mount the A/V jacks either on the front adjacent to where the power cord enters or on the left side. Tuck the mod board inside the case pretty much wherever you want.

I drew the Intvwiki in Eagle and posted it for free in the forum about a year back. This way people can print them at OSHPark for cost. I've only used the Intvwiki on NTSC Intellivisions.

I don't remember how long, probably about an hour.. most of the time spent on drilling holes for the av jacks. There's only 4 wires to solder from the Mod to the motherboard. The other wires go out to the av jacks from the mod. I did Dual Mono with mine but you could just use 1 for the audio.

The mod was well worth it.. it looks beautiful, crystal clear on my 32" Toshiba CRT.

Although colors aren't 100% perfect but maybe 95%.. which is close enough for me. I run the audio out to a stereo receiver, which sounds heavenly.

I bought the mod from Turkey in November of 2013, right before I joined here again. I installed it about 6 months later since I was more into coleco at that time.

Ah yes, I rememeber that.. I actually have 3 bare PCB's sitting here that I totally forgot about, they just need populated and swapped in my Intys. :)

I'm half-tempted to do an audio-only mod on my setup. I don't mind the RF image (especially on a CRT), but the audio has way too much static when pumped through headphones. Audio's usually just wires out - no components needed - so I imagine it'd be pretty simple.

Looking on YouTube ,I've found a german guy doing a A/V mod on a Intellivision.....Not sure if it's the same mod, but shows how to solder and get the shielding off the motherboard etc..Can't speak german but should help me a little ..lol....

An hour to do the job ???...probably take me a day to get the shield off on it's own.,lol

The soldering kit is coming from Amazon on Wed, so will start soon after..

I will give you a update on how i get on with the mod, good or bad...Thanks again for all the advice !..wish me luck !!!!....

When using RF the cable is very important. I had a lousy picture using the 35 year old Intellivision cable (with an rca-F adapter), Then I tried some AV cables I had, but still a terrible picture. I then tried a coax RG6 cable and couldn't believe how good the picture looks. There is some colour bleed and minor ghosting but I am very happy with the picture. And the cable is 40 feet long, not having bothered to cut it. I imagine a high quality AV cable should do a good job.

No.... i got a 9 piece 40w soldering iron kit with everything i need....not sure what the make is...only £16.95 about $25

Cheap!... but got good reviews on Amazon and i might only need it for this job so didn't want to spend any more.

I hope it does the job ;)

40w should get through the RF shielding..

I took a more brute force approach and used a flat-head screw driver to speed the process up, prying the tabs where soldered.

I didn't take any internal pictures when I modded mine, although I wish I would have..

Like I said, there's a PDF file on the listing that gives instructions on how to do it but they could have been more detailed. There's also other pics on here and elsewhere around the web.

Just take your time and practice on something else first before your Intellivision, I'd hate to see anything go wrong, causing damage to the console.

If you're new to soldering, do yourself a favor and watch this video from EEVblog on YouTube. It's very informative.

best advice i can give you: run the wires out of the same corner as the blue wire and remember which pin you took the blue wire off of

Hi Guys,

Opened my Intellivision up today and had a look inside...To my surprise it has no Shielding on the Motherboard!! ! :ponder:... which is great because it looks like its a pain to get off..

The problem is ,it has a small Circuit Board wired to the Motherboard..... and everything doesn't look the same as it is in the PDF file instructions.

So I'am not 100% sure where i should do the wiring now !

My Intellivision says made in Hong Kong 1979 on the console..... Can anybody tell me if they made different intellivision 1 models back then :? with different insides :?

Or have i got a fake console ?...Everything looks well made ,but just not the same as on the pics and vids on YouTube.

Can anybody shed any light on this matter ?

Many thanks

Sounds like the common PAL console to me.

Don't the Pal versions have a shielding cover over the motherboard then ?....I thought all Intellivisions have them on :?

I've taken quite a few apart and never seen an RF shield.
