Best tool to format 80 track DSSD floppy?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

What would be the best tool to use with a 80 track modded TI disk controller. I understand I can expect 1440 sectors for an 80 track DSSD disk. Small, but better than 720! :) I have tried a bunch of tools and none of them seem to allow for an 80 track input.

Advice??? Cheers, Arthur...

This is, of course, not really on topic of your question, but I can only recommend to everybody to look out for DSDD controllers instead of modding an SD controller to 80 tracks. Same capacity, but almost double speed. (I know they can be hard to find, just in case you spot one on ebay or so.)

DM2k is excellent. I know I have even used Disk manager 2. I also think you will still get 1440 sectors from the 80 tracks. The 80 track upgrade gives you the same amount of storage as a DS/DD 40 track (360k) but in 80k single density format.

Agreed - I have a Myarc DDCC-1 in my other PEB. In the current system I am building it's a choice between a TI Controller with the Guion ROMS or a TI Controller with the 80 track mod. I'd love to buy a DSDD controller - anyone have one for sale??? ;)

Believe it or not, an 80 track DSDD clone of the DDCC-1 is supposed to be in the pipeline... but I have no clue WHEN it'll actually happen.

I was hoping for Christmas this year, but now I'm thinking not.

This reminds me, I should have a package in the mail real soon for a couple of other items... I think I'll go check the mail now before I leave for work.

Time for thread revival. I am trying to format an 80 track device with my Myarc DDCC-1 with 80 track ROM upgrade. I have tried several 3.5" drives which will format 40 track with no error, but 80 track returns a disk error 215.

Any ideas?
